Howrah Station, India's largest and oldest railway station, will get an airport-style integrated bus and taxi terminal to ease congestion at India’s busiest rail hub. The station handles nearly 10 lakh passengers daily through 23 platforms and more than 600 trains. The proposed project will include escalators, skywalks and organized pickup zones linking the station, Hooghly River ghats and bus stand area.
The proposal was discussed with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw under Bengal’s wider rail modernization drive. The project also complements the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, under which 102 stations in West Bengal are being redeveloped.
India’s fertility rate has fallen below replacement for the first time in the country’s history, declining from a TFR of 2.3 to 1.9 in just a decade.
Delhi’s fertility rate now sits at 1.2, lower than Finland’s.

Speaking recently, BJP leader Rakesh Singh outlined a vision to transform the Howrah Station precinct into a fully integrated multimodal transport hub.
His vision includes bringing together:
🚆 Long-distance Rail
🚉 Suburban Rail
🚇 Metro
🚌 City & Intercity Buses
🚖 Taxis
🛺 Autos & E-rickshaws
⛴️ Ferries
🚗 Multi-level Parking
🚶 Modern Passenger Subways
within a single coordinated mobility ecosystem.
He also spoke about redeveloping the area around Howrah Station with organized transport terminals, waiting areas, parking infrastructure and better utilization of the existing subway network, enabling passengers to seamlessly move between different modes of transport.
Interestingly, many of these transport modes already exist around Howrah today.
The challenge is no longer creating transport options.
The challenge is integrating them into a single, seamless passenger experience.
Globally, some of the most successful transport hubs operate on this very principle.
🇯🇵 Tokyo Station functions as a multimodal interchange connecting Shinkansen, commuter rail, metro systems, buses, taxis and extensive commercial developments through multiple underground and elevated circulation layers.
🇭🇰 Hong Kong Station integrates airport rail, metro services, buses, taxis and commercial districts within a unified mobility ecosystem designed to minimize transfer times and maximize passenger convenience.
🇨🇳 Shenzhen Futian Transport Hub combines high-speed rail, metro, bus terminals, taxi facilities and commercial spaces into a highly efficient passenger interchange capable of handling massive daily footfall.
Whether implemented through Railways, the State Government or a PPP model, the larger vision is clear:

**Yes, the investment plan is real—but the timing in the post is off.**
Amul (GCMMF) announced plans for a ~₹600-650 crore integrated dairy plant in West Bengal (Sankrail Food Park, Howrah, near Kolkata) back in **February 2025** during the Bengal Global Business Summit. It includes the world's largest curd facility (10 lakh kg/day) and 15 lakh litres/day milk processing.
The BJP's big win in the 2026 elections is fresh, but this specific project was already in the works under the previous government. Still positive news for Bengal's dairy sector either way.
🇨🇳 China built a 1.22M square metre train station on top of a mountain for $7.8B in just 38 months.
The roof alone weighed 16,500 tonnes.
They assembled it on flat ground, then hydraulically lifted the entire thing 57 metres into the air.
Today India launched its largest offshore oil & gas exploration mission. I am sure our great oil explorers working in harsh conditions will find a lot of hydrocarbons to help propel India's growth into the future while cutting India's reliance on foreign energy.
In supersession of all previous orders and practices, the Government of West Bengal has mandated the singing of National Song of Bharat - Vande Mataram, during School Assembly Prayers before commencement of Classes in all Schools under the School Education Department across West Bengal, effective immediately.
Dear @BJP4Bengal, here is the checklist of everything you promised. We’ll keep checking whether you actually do it.
