Climbing (And Photographing) The New York Times Tower (Part One)

A small window of opportunity presented itself to us to make a climb of one of the city’s most beautiful spire. The top of the New York Times building is about 1100 feet AGL. On this particular day we caught wind of a nondescript door that workers were coming in and out of to smoke. Following our trail of curiosity, one of us cosplayed as a worker, took a “smoke break” nearby an actual employee and caught the door going back in.

Waiting ten to fifteen seconds, all of us piled in and found ourselves injected into one of the main stairwells of the building. The hike up took a little bit, but after a few magic tricks for a locked door or two, we arrived at roof by sunset. I was eager to grab footage so I put up the drone and got to filming as my friend “E” climbed the spire first. We then swapped and I flew the drone up and filmed myself, taking one of my favorite self-portraits ever.

We ended the night by taking a few photos on the roof (see below in thread) including one of me with the front page New York Times article that changed my life. We took the elevator down and walked out, wishing security a warm goodnight. It was a good day at the office.

EUROPE GANG – If you're deciding whether to drive to totality for Wednesday's eclipse, I IMPLORE YOU – DO IT.

This difference between a 99.5% partial eclipse and totality is night and day – literally!
