Men's Area Team Champs Final - Update 🏆

Lothians take command of the final! 💪

A clean sweep of the morning foursomes has given Lothians a 3–0 advantage heading into this afternoon’s singles.

It was a closely fought start, with little separating the sides over the opening nine holes, but Lothians found another gear down the stretch.

Craig Davidson & Angus Carrick produced the drama, birdieing the 18th to force extra holes before completing the comeback to claim the opening point 🔥

Kai Lang & Jamie Duguid followed with a 2&1 victory after a back-and-forth encounter 👏

Georgie Jackson & Marc Reid then completed the clean sweep with a 4&2 win, securing the final point of the morning.

Time for the final… 🏆

A dark and damp start to the day, but our competitors are fired up and ready to go 🔥

The Lothians will be looking to lift the trophy for a 16th time since 1977, and the Renfrewshire team are back in the final for the third time in a row, most recently taking the crown in 2024 👑

First up, morning foursomes, then onto to the afternoon singles 🏌️

Renfrewshire and Lothians get the job done 🤝

It was a convincing 5-1 victory for Renfrewshire against the North East. The North East were encouraged in the early stages of the singles matches when Mark Thomson sealed a point through a 4&3 win - but Renfrewshire kicked into gear and locked in their spot at Sunday's final, with Barry Hume getting it over the line with a 2UP win on the 18th 🔒

A similar story in the Lothians and North match up. Duncan Stewart's early point for the North wasn't going to be enough to stop the Lothians team from a 4-1 victory, with wins including a 5&3 for Jamie Duguid and a 3&1 for Georgie Jackson 🔥

Our final will see two in form teams go head to head with everything on the line at Largs... 🏆

Scottish Men’s Area Team Finals - Day One🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏆

Lothians and Renfrewshire start strong after 2-1 wins in this mornings foursomes at Largs Golf Club 💪

Angus Carrick and Craig Davidson set the tone for team Lothians with an emphatic 6&5 win in their match. Kai Lang and Jamie Duguid followed up with a point of their own, winning 5&3 against the North.

A couple of tight fixtures saw Renfrewshire take a narrow lead against the North East team. Matthew Clark and Barry Hume took down former Scottish Mens Amateur Champ, Chris Sommers, and teammate Ben Murray. Michael Daily and Stewart Watt also secured their point with a 2&1 win ✅

Three Scots are central to Team GB&I’s bid for glory at Lahinch Golf Club against holders USA.

Dean - a two-time @WalkerCup captain and a former Scottish Men's Amateur champion - is excited for the event and for what the Scots can bring to the party.

He said: "With it being only the third time in history that the match is being played on Irish soil, we are really excited to be playing in front of the Irish crowd.

"For Connor this is going to be his third Walker Cup and he brings a wealth of experience. He is a prodigious talent with a massive potential still to fulfil.

"Niall is in his second Walker Cup and is a tenacious match-player who thrives on the big occasion."

Not only does the county boast two national women’s individual champions but they were today crowned national champs as a team!🏆

After a 24-year absence, Stirling and Clackmannan are back with a bang!💥

In their first County Finals since 2002, Alison Jones’s team outplayed holders North to record a thumping 7-2 win.🤩

We caught up with Alison at the end of play @DunfermlineGC 🎥

It’s been quite a year for women’s golf in Stirling and Clacks with not one but TWO national champions coming from the county.🏆🏆

With @stirlinggc1869 players Alison Davidson (Senior Women’s Open champion) and Erin Huskie (Scottish Women’s Amateur champion) both on form and the team gelling superbly, it is shaping up up to be an exciting weekend

“It was amazing to get everyone back together again 50 years on – albeit with less hair and a few extra pounds on show!”🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🤣

Scotland’s class of ’76 recently took a trip down Memory Lane during a nostalgic lunch in Glasgow to mark the 50th anniversary of their victory in the International Cup against England. 🏆

The boys’ team even recreated an iconic photo from five decades ago (minus the tartan flares and kipper ties!) 📸

How many of the squad can you pick out from the sepia-coloured photo taken after the win and the recent reunion pic? (names listed below)

Players in the team that defeated England 8-7 at Sunningdale on 14 August, 1976 included two future Scottish Boys’ champions, a Scottish Amateur champion and later Walker Cup captain and several long-serving club professionals.🏌️‍♂️

One of the players, John Huggan, went on to carve out a career as one of the game’s pre-eminent and respected golf writers and loved being part of the get-together.

John said: “Happily, all 12 members of the squad, including the two reserves, were able to make it. All 12 still alive and, even more remarkable, all 12 living in Scotland!”

Congratulations, fellas. Lang may yer lum reek!

A fantastic example of how this great game of ours creates bonds that are never broken and promotes friendships that can last a lifetime.🤝
