Batt Koch screening
Irvine, California, USA
21st June 2026
About 50 people from the community watched the movie together via private streaming. Even as the gathering was intimate, this was the single biggest collection by the film yet. A big thank you to the community in CA.
@Koshur_Karkun No. Both are of Khrew. This scene is of Aneek Nag before the Jwalaji hill. The article has the description of the festival. https://t.co/ERC7cwvfab
In a Kashmir Shiv temple if you see a Nandi in that style, now you know that it at least dates back to 1912.
Kashmiri Pandit priest, 1912.
Inset: Nandi at Soomyar. 2026
Yes...very simple. In 1990 getting jobs and setting business again after having seen what they spent their life building and then have it taken over by their neighbors would have been very simple. That is why there is no need for KPs to invest in a place where people think it is simple. They need to focus on their own lives.
Reminder: in 1990 all those KPs who were small business owners, self-employed, in private sector, most of them are living on Rs. 13000 monthly govt. allowance, that too delayed from time to time, and not to forget the govt. still calls them "migrants". Their migrant children are now supposed to set up industries in Kashmir. For who and what?
Shashi Shekhar Toshkhani passed away in Delhi yesterday. He was the one who coined the idea: We once lived in Kashmir, and now Kashmir lives in us. Shashi Shekhar Toshkhani leaves behind a vast legacy in Kashmiri literature and culture, notably his scholarly fight for the true origins of the Kashmiri language—a battle he was uniquely equipped to lead. Even in his 80s, he remained active in cultural field. A few years back he opened up his library to be digitally archived also. But my most cherished memory of him is deeply personal. Many years ago, he sent me an unexpected email to praise a story I had written. It was an allegorical piece, its metaphors rooted in the forgotten tales of old Kashmir. That a writer and scholar of his immense stature would pause to encourage my attempt, displaying such humility about his own work, meant everything to me. His words offered a quiet, enduring validation. His generosity of spirit matched his formidable intellect. Farewell, sir.
Got the opportunity to meet Kashmiri theatre legend Shri Makhan Lal Saraf at his residence. His latest work is the English translation of his previous scholarly work about the history of theatre "Kaeshiri manz drama tehreek"
Scenes from last weekend screening of Batt Koch in New York, Germany, Seattle and Nasik. Thanks to all the people who made it possible and all those who came.
@AaryanBhagat13 Around same time the new improved Allama Iqbal library came up in Srinagar. The new middle class in Kashmir had started moving towards Jamat and Shiekh had to adapt.
