On Gold Star Mother’s Day we honor the mothers who gave the most a parent can give: a child who died serving our nation. To every Gold Star mother and family on Staten Island and across this country: we remember your son or daughter, and we are grateful for your strength.

TToday begins Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish year. It is a sacred time of atonement, reflection and seeking forgiveness. Wishing all who observe a meaningful day and an easy fast.
Happy 79th Birthday to the U.S. Air Force! Added as a new branch of our military in 1947, it stands to this day as the strongest aerial defense in the world. Thank you to all who have and continue to serve our Air Force, keeping our skies clear and our nation safe.
On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we honor every American taken prisoner of war or still missing in action. Their courage did not end on the battlefield, neither does our duty. To those who never came home, and to the families who still wait: you are not forgotten.

25 years ago today, a terror attack left an entire nation in shock and mourning. Staten Island did not watch from a distance. We lost family, friends, neighbors, civilians, and hero first responders who never came home.
We honor those lost by speaking their names, by caring for the living who still carry the illness and the absence, and by refusing to let this day become only a date on a calendar.
