The General Secretariat of the OIC and the Turkish Mission Mark World Environment Day in Jeddah
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) marked #WorldEnvironmentDay today at its headquarters in #Jeddah, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of #Türkiye to the #OIC.
The event featured a specialised seminar attended by several permanent representatives of Member States, as well as speakers from the OIC’s subsidiary and specialised organs.
The seminar aimed to highlight the tireless efforts and innovative initiatives led by the OIC Member States to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development. It drew international attention to the accelerating environmental challenges and risks facing the planet, and discussed ways to mitigate their impact.
It is worth noting that this celebration forms part of the OIC General Secretariat’s commitment to promoting International Days and supporting global efforts to build a safe and sustainable environmental future for generations to come.
Expanding access to finance remains essential for unlocking entrepreneurship, employment generation, innovation, and comprehensive economic growth.
According to the latest available data, MSME financing in OIC countries stood at 8.0% of GDP in 2025, while estimated potential demand reached 30.1% of GDP, indicating a financing gap of 22.1% of GDP.
Worldwide, similar challenges underline the need for accessible financial services, simpler procedures, and alternative financing channels, including crowdfunding, venture capital, angel investment, and Islamic finance, to support MSMEs' growth, resilience, and sustainable development.
Through its OIC-SMENET, SESRIC continues to foster mutual learning, technical cooperation, and coordinated action to strengthen SME ecosystems across the OIC countries.

H.E. Amb. Hazem Issam AL-KHATIB AL-TAMIMI, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Ankara, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK at SESRIC HQs.
The meeting explored ways to further strengthen cooperation with relevant national institutions in Jordan.
SESRIC has a long-standing partnership with Jordan. To date, we have successfully implemented over 260 capacity-building activities for the benefit of the public institutions of Jordan.
Historically, women have been underrepresented in political leadership positions. This trend has begun to shift in recent years, as the proportion of seats held by women in national parliaments has steadily increased.
Between 2000 and 2025, the share of seats held by women in national parliaments in OIC countries nearly tripled — rising from 7.6% to 21.5%. Globally, the proportion increased from 13.3% to 27.2%.
While this progress is evident, achieving equal representation requires sustained efforts to strengthen women’s participation in leadership and decision-making at all levels.
H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Mehmet ARABACI, the newly appointed President of @TurkStat. She extended her congratulations on his recent appointment and wished him success in his new role.

They exchanged views on statistical areas for collaboration within the scope of the MoU signed in 2024 through flagship programmes highlighting TurkStat’s role in the agricultural census, demographic and social statistics among others. The two sides also discussed the preparations for the upcoming 15th Session of the @oicstatcom.
TurkStat remains one of the leading NSOs under the StatCaB Programme, having supported 129 activities across various statistical domains.
