Join the Sheba Hope Grows Collective as we restore coral reefs with blockchain technology 🪸 A web3 for good project by @MarsGlobal @ShebaBrand and @AngelLabsIO
Sheba Hope Grows has partnered with Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds to showcase the world's largest mass coral restoration programme https://t.co/DrsOC8Y595
🐠 Fish are absolutely necessary for #CoralReef health. How do we know that? Study after study has documented the fish/coral connection. Here’s just one summary of that important relationship:

Triggerfish are found in tropical and subtropical oceans around the world. There are about 40 species of this vibrant fish, which are the Balistidae family. Most prefer the shallow coastal waters and coral reefs.
Today's #Barbie fish is another Anthiadinae (lots of pink fish in this subfamily), but this one is special. It's a yet to be described species of Odontanthias from #mesophotic central Pacific reefs. I photographed this one in Micronesia at about 140m depth. #ichthyology
Why do warmer waters have us worried about #CoralReefs? Increased ocean temperatures can cause coral bleaching, a disruption of the relationship between the coral host and their microscopic algal symbionts that provide the coral with food!

Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the world’s surface area, yet they support 25% of all marine life and are critically important for fisheries and coastal protection.
Now is the time to take action for our #ocean.
Here are 10 strategies 👉 https://t.co/cHpjSlFurL

Coral reefs are incredible climate change superheroes!
They absorb and store carbon dioxide, acting as natural carbon sinks.
By regulating pH levels and reducing ocean acidity, they create a thriving environment for marine life.
Let's preserve these magnificent reefs to combat climate change and protect our oceans' vitality!
Our collaboration between @JohnStudioJZ and @shebahopegrows is coming to a head soon! Come along to the London Festival of Architecture to experience #coralreefs in #VR put together by @UOWarchitecture students 🥽🪸 https://t.co/tXrZGB94AS
Happy #WorldOceanDay! Today we celebrate the ocean, which makes up 71% of Earth’s surface, but everyday we celebrate our #CoralReefs. While they only cover <1% of our world’s oceans, they provide habitat for >25% of our marine species! 🐠🦀🪸

Close to 500M years old, coral reefs are the ocean’s rainforests.
In particular, coral reefs in the Red Sea are some of the most important in the 🌍 due to their:
🪸High biodiversity
🪸High temperature resistance

Why divers should NOT touch wrecks... 🪸👉 Wrecks become artificial reefs over time, providing habitats for various marine organisms. Disturbing these ecosystems by touching wrecks can disrupt the delicate balance and harm the diverse marine life 🐠

In my happy place 🌊 monitoring #ReefBudgets in the MARRS reef restoration project 🪸🪸🪸 With the best possible support team for science, laughs and tea 💙
thanks @shebahopegrows team and @TimACLamont for getting me involved in this exciting project 🙏
Snapped a few pics from the restored sites here in Indonesia 📸 In each you can see a few legs of reef stars poking out from underneath 🪸
See how these reefs begin in the last image - heavily degraded rubble fields mostly destroyed by bomb fishing in decades gone by 💣

Introducing Agaricia agaricites. Also known as the lettuce coral. Colonies of this species can grow in irregular, horizontal, large plates diving upright – resembling a fresh lettuce
