@ElliottVenczel@towelthetank I think there’s always going to be room for arena style PvP where you can section off that player base from the majority and cater to both of them without having to sacrifice lambs to the slaughter, but the old school PvP that MMOs used to have I think is probably gone
@ElliottVenczel@towelthetank Aion Online and Archeage for some old ones
New World for a recent one.
As someone who enjoys the style of “huge political interpersonal PvP” that games used to lean into, it comes at a zero sum cost to people who don’t want to engage with that.
@Braden_Keith Does this also make US-born athletes a bit more valuable, since now you’re not as incentivized to get older proven European athletes for eligibility-maxxing? Am I reading that right or no?
@XLBigRed@NeverSinkDev The map thing has nothing to do with racing others, it’s “I want to go to this place to do this content, but I have to do 10 irrelevant maps along the way, that sucks”. They’ve addressed that sort of with Jado’s Unexpected Missions perk, but I’d like to see it more targeted.
@NeverSinkDev I don’t know what the solution to breach is tbh. The genesis tree seems really powerful and being able to craft intricately like that is awesome, AND ground loot of the actual breach incursions is terrible bc of that, so each breach feels bad. Idk how they broach that gap.
@xerwo@Coldfire989 That’s the only way that solo queue m+ makes any sense, and it would completely change the way the game is played completely. Would be a cool experiment tho. Using the current high watermark system for solo queueing would be quite boring
@xerwo@Coldfire989 There’s an implication for a true MMR system of being able to lose points, which is the distinct difference. That’s how ELO based matchmaking works. IO is a high watermark based system, which is completely different.
@jraines@Braden_Keith All that to say, I don’t necessarily think that just bc historically the 100 fr has had a certain body type, that that in and of itself can be evidence toward what the best body type could be, at least not without considering the confounding variables
@jraines@Braden_Keith It’s a lot harder to build up size and develop real strength and explosiveness when you’re in a calorie hole from 70km’s a week, just from a sheer thermodynamics perspective. We don’t really know, aside from (mainly) Dressel, what an elite talent can do with that kind of physique
@jraines@Braden_Keith I think this is results based analysis. We’ve seen extremely elite athletes (Dressel as a primary example) be incredible at the 100 free, completely yoked. Just bc these two aren’t doesn’t mean it’s the best, it could be confounding factors as is the case with performance often
@hazmateuw@drewlevin Can they not do both? Opportunity cost of removing this obscure mechanic in development time is essentially 0, and has some margin of value, however small you think it is. That’s how development works. It’s not either or, this is just low hanging fruit that they can fix quickly
One of my worst wow habits is that anytime I join a season late, I find it so hard to play. Every m+ season I’ve ever engaged with heavily I’ve been there at launch, and the several times I’ve tried to get in late, I’ve failed.
Something about being “behind” on dungeon knowledge
A never-before-seen owl has been found in the USA.
While snowy owls are known for their white feathers, this owl, nicknamed "Rusty" by locals, has an unexplained reddish-orange appearance.
