I don’t want a soft life because I’m lazy. I want a soft life because I’ve spent most of my life in survival mode. my nervous system has been in fight or flight since childhood and now I’m choosing peace and stability.
My therapist told me, "When a woman grows up feeling unseen, she learns to love by overgiving. She pours into everyone else, hoping that one day someone will finally pour back into her. She becomes the caretaker, the fixer, the one who shows up even when no one shows up for her. And the hardest part? Deep down, she's not trying to be strong. She's just waiting for someone to do for her what she's spent her whole life doing for everyone else."
the best thing you can do for yourself is actively increase your surface area for luck to hit you. go outside, try new cafes, museums, events, take a new route home, speak to people, ask questions, side quest. the more you do, the more serendipity and synchronicity will find you.
Adult friendships require a lot of understanding. People go to work. People are busy. People are healing. People are growing. People are taking time for self care just like you. Do not mistake less communication for less love.
sometimes, the best sign that your life is changing is the sudden discomfort you feel in situations you used to tolerate. the irritation, the restlessness, the heaviness in your chest. that’s not burnout, that’s not moodiness, it’s your soul outgrowing what no longer fits you. pay attention to that, it’s trying to pull you somewhere better.
you can literally wake up one day and be like “actually, fuck everything ab my past and the self-sabotaging identity i had” and decide to live an entirely new life and be someone who always fucking wins. it doesn’t take a feeling or breakthrough moment or epiphany. only a decision.
functional depression is a real thing. you work, joke, make people happy and take care of your family. yet mentally you’re drowning in your own thoughts.
For the kids who waited until the last minute to write an essay and then just word vomited onto the paper and turned it in unedited and still got one of the top grades, are you diagnosed with ADHD and neurodivergent now? Or are you a writer?
at this big age when people show signs of hidden animosity or weird energy, just remove yourself. don’t try to understand them or try to make it make sense.
You ever notice workplace bullies never seem to pick on the office loudmouth? Or the one who'll tell them to f**k off without blinking? Nah. It's always the quiet one. The helpful one. The one who just wants to do their job, collect their wages and go home. They'll poke... Make little comments... Talk over them in meetings... Try to embarrass them... Keep seeing how much they can get away with.
Nobody really lives life anymore, everything is performative and fake.
Open Instagram and you’ll see people who are at a World Cup game or outside watching it at a bar, not caring about the game at all. They go there to show their Instagram friends that they’re watching it. Most of them can’t even name five players on the pitch.
Then there’s another group of people who go hoping violence breaks out between fans so they can be part of it, since they have no real lives and hope to find some meaning that way.
You’ve also got people traveling to places, eating at expensive restaurants, and buying certain things, not because they’re enjoying the moment or because the food is good, but for the social media posts. Most of them can barely afford it but they need to pretend to their friends that they’re rich.
We live in the most shallow world, full of miserable people putting on a mask just to convince their friends that they’re happy and rich.
Every time you avoid something uncomfortable, your brain reinforces the idea that avoidance works. It literally strengthens the pathways that make hesitation, procrastination, or excuses automatic. And every time you do the hard thing even imperfectly your brain is building a new pathway: this is something I can do.
