@BraveSirRobin42 Humanity integrated within ecosystem limits is more important than an economic system that will kill us; The film 'Don't look up' simply uses the metaphor of a meteorite to point this out. Not saying I know the solution, but am working towards it.
@BraveSirRobin42 Well, I don't agree that climate change policy is inhuman - my view is that capitalism is inhuman and that currently, a way to mitigate it's homicidal effects on our life-support system is policy & tax (plus tech, behaviour change, etc)
@BraveSirRobin42@ZubyMusic Yep, Leave seemed to be based on emotional appeal whilst missing the details, Remain on benefits of the status quo without recognising it's failures. The debate was, and can still be, toxic and uncivilised
@BraveSirRobin42 I disagree. I think the common understanding is that a) Govt raise money via tax and dispense policy and b) 84% of the population support tackling Climate Change in polling, which gives the required popular support. Authoritarian and eco-fascism is hyperbole
@BraveSirRobin42 Isn't the job an effective Government to raise taxes to deploy policies for the benefit of the whole? And if raising taxes on gas results in energy security, lower bills and a safer World, with evidence that it should do so?
@BraveSirRobin42 About 8% of energy bills are govt levies; by far the largest part of bills is wholesale energy; cf fossil fuel majors' record profits? By shifting people away from gas, we reduce bills and improve energy security. Tech exists to do this. No 'obligation'
@rachelburden@bbc5live@BBCSounds Worth discussing when Netzero should be achieved, because both the cost and the risks escalate significantly with delay; and conversely, more benefits and less risk with early action. 2050- irrelevant in terms of driving real change; simply a nice, kick-it-down the road number
@Gill_Nowell @Transprt_Energy @AutoTrader_UK I don't think they're going to have a real choice. The cost of implementing Euro NCAP 6 will result in auto makers dumping ICEs and investing in BEVs = wholesale market switch
A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, & most of the energy that does, moves the car, not people.
Sound efficient?

@RobBryher Brilliant that there was a clear demonstration of the benefits; can you imagine how this policy would've worked in the world of social media?! see also: 'gun controls don't work', 'I don't need a vaccine', 'global warming isn't real'.
