I tell my son to talk to strangers.

Most parents tell their kids the opposite. "Don't talk to strangers" has been drilled into British children for 40 years.

And it's left a generation of adults who can't network, can't sell, can't ask for what they need.

Trained out of them at age five and never trained back in.

My son is 9. I home-school him and take him to different experiences every week. He walks up to people and asks what they do.

He’s spoken with a fishmonger who taught him about supply chains. And an Uber driver who used to live in Kenya.

He’s learned far more from simply speaking to different people, from different cultures, who have had different experiences, than he ever would have in school.

School sits you in the same class, with the same people for years.

So talk to strangers more!

Every new stranger knows hundreds of people you don’t. And each one is a potential door to open a new opportunity for you.

I love this so much.

Every time something goes wrong in business or in life, our brain tells us we’ve failed.

That we should have seen it coming. That we’ve wasted time.

A GPS doesn’t think like that.

It just looks at where you are now, where you want to go, and finds the next route.

Whether it’s a job. A failed business, or a relationship that ended.

None of it is a mistake. It’s just data telling you where you are now.

Recalculate and keep going. The destination doesn’t change.

This was someone’s CV.

I don’t read CV’s. They’re a scam.

They were invented for factory work. "Experience" meant "we trust you to operate the machine on time."

That world ended in the 90s, but the CV stayed.

The whole industry is now AI writing CVs to other AI.
