The joy of the wild.
I’m incredibly lucky that my work sometimes takes me to places like this — deep into the jungle in Papua New Guinea, surrounded by extraordinary life, noise, heat, colour and green.
But I don’t think “the wild” has to mean travelling to the other side of the planet. It doesn’t always have to involve mountains, leeches, machetes or sleeping in a hammock.
A wild place can be much closer to home. A local park. A footpath you’ve never followed. A patch of woodland. A river, a hill, a beach, a field. Sometimes it can simply mean turning left where you normally turn right and seeing what’s there.
Either way…I think we all need a bit more Wild in our lives. Getting outside, moving, wandering, exploring — feeling the weather on your face and remembering there’s a huge living world beyond our screens and our daily routines. It can clear away some of the nonsense, make us feel wonderfully small, and do enormous good for our head health.
So this is my gentle encouragement: find your wild place. Get outside. Have a wander, a wobble, a little adventure. Less screen time, more green time.
Because we could all do with getting just a little bit more wild.!!

Meet the wonderful folk of Mupun, high in the remote Torricelli Mountains of Papua New Guinea…
Reaching the village took us deep into the forest, and far from roads, but the welcome when we arrived was unforgettable — warm, generous, curious and full of laughter.
Mupun was a reminder that the best travel & adventure memories don't just come from landscapes or wildlife, but the people you meet along the way. This is a community living with deep knowledge of the forest around them and an intimate connection to nature that stretches back across the generations. It was a huge privilege to be with them and spend time there — and one of the great joys of our first Wilderness journey….

In remote Papua New Guinea I met Jim from the @Tenkile Conservation Alliance — and got my first proper introduction to the extraordinary world of tree kangaroos.
Jim and his team care for rescued and recovering animals, including a beautiful grizzled tree kangaroo, but our real mission lay far beyond the sanctuary.
Somewhere deep in the mountainous jungle lives the tenkile tree kangaroo — one of the rarest creatures on Earth. Very few people have ever seen one in the wild.
To have any chance of finding one, we were going to have to trek deep into remote forest, far from roads and settlements, into some of the toughest country I’ve ever travelled through.
Jim gave me a pretty clear idea of what lay ahead…
