Dear Hausa community,
I want to appeal that we reconsider some of the names we give our newborn babies 😭
I met someone I knew from secondary school at the immigration office while renewing my passport. We greeted each other and I asked if he was there for his own passport. He said no, it was for his wife and their child.
I was surprised because I didn’t even know he was married. He told me he got married and already has a 2 year old son.
He pointed at the boy running around, very cute kid. I said, ‘Hey, come here,’ but the boy ignored me. Then the father laughed and said, ‘BALA, come here,’ and the boy ran straight to us.
I was shocked 😲
Why would you name your child Bala in 2026?? Isn’t that name too strong for a baby?
In my mind, anyone named Bala should be at least 40+ but this guy named his toddler Bala 😭🤦🏾♂️
I even started feeling bad for the toddler because I just know when he grow up, his friends in school will tease him for that name😭🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
