The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has raised concerns over security threats and vote trading ahead of Saturday’s poll, urging security agencies, electoral officials and political actors to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

The coalition of over 70 civil society organisations, in a preliminary statement issued in Ado-Ekiti and jointly signed by Co-Conveners Celestine Odo and Mma Odi, said the state remained largely calm but identified certain LGAs as potential flashpoints.

Situation Room Flags Five Ekiti LGAs as Flashpoints, Urges Neutral Security for Gov Poll

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has begun monitoring Saturday’s 2026 Ekiti governorship election, listing five local government areas as potential flashpoints and calling for impartial conduct by security agencies.

In a preliminary statement co-signed by the Conveners, Celestine Odo and Mma Odi, and read during the preliminary press statement on Friday at the Fabian Hotel, the coalition of over 70 civil society organisations said it will deploy accredited observers to all 16 LGAs. It will also use its Situation Room Election Accountability Tracker (SEAT) app to collect real-time reports from citizens.
