This is what I have done in @Europarl_EN: securing additional EU funding for Romania’s recovery, regions and communities.

What I have secured for #Romania in the European Parliament, I now want to defend as Prime Minister.

Dictatorships cooperate. Democracies must cooperate even more closely. Our security depends on the strength of our alliances.

As Prime Minister-designate, I want a strong #Romania in the #EU and #NATO: a country that protects its citizens, honours its commitments and helps shape the decisions that affect it.

Our partnership with the US must remain strong.
We will continue supporting #Ukraine. The better Ukraine can defend itself, the safer Romania and Europe will be.

The Republic of #Moldova belongs in the European Union. Romania will be its strongest supporter on this path, backing reforms, development and EU accession.

I want Moldova to become a full EU member as soon as possible. I have worked towards this for 12 years in the European Parliament, and we will continue this work together in the years ahead.

Judicial independence is non-negotiable.

Without an #independent #judiciary, there is no strong democracy and no strong economy. People and businesses invest where rules are clear, contracts are respected and the law is the same for everyone.

When the rule of law is under pressure, silence is not a solution. Those with the power to put things right also have a responsibility to act.

As Prime Minister-designate, I have proposed an independent Minister of #Justice: an experienced professional who knows the problems and is determined to reform the system.

Romania is more stable today than it was a year ago, thanks to the responsible decisions taken to stabilise the country. But stabilisation was never the end goal.

Now we must move from stabilisation to growth: restore investor confidence and attract more investment to #Romania.

As Prime Minister-designate, I am proposing a government built on competence and responsibility. A government that earns the trust of citizens, investors and our European partners by telling the truth, delivering on its commitments and spending taxpayers’ money wisely.

A European Romania is a strong Romania. 🇷🇴🇪🇺

We know what isolation means. Under communism, Romanians could not travel freely or speak their minds. The state controlled almost every aspect of their lives.

EU membership gave us the freedom to live, work and study across Europe, and rules that empower citizens.

Today, as Prime Minister-designate, I am presenting our vision in the Romanian Parliament: a modern state that serves its citizens and a strong Romania at the heart of Europe.

On Saturday, as Prime Minister-designate, I submitted the proposed Cabinet and governing programme for Romania’s next government.

The Cabinet is made up of competent, pro-European politicians supported by three pro-European parties: the two @EPP member parties, PNL and RMDSZ, and the @RenewEurope member party, USR. We have an independent Minister of Justice, reflecting our firm commitment to an independent judiciary.

The ministers’ hearings in the Romanian Parliament begin today at 14:00 local time and are due to conclude on Tuesday evening.

The final vote in plenary will take place on Wednesday afternoon.

I presented the main priorities of the government programme that I will bring before the Romanian Parliament.

We will build on the reforms launched by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan’s government and take #Romania into a new phase of economic growth and development.

Our priorities are: sound public finances, a lower deficit, no new taxes in 2027, a more efficient and digital public administration, new jobs, decisive action against corruption and tax evasion, and the full use of European funds.

This will be a pro-European government, firmly anchored in the European Union and NATO, advance towards OECD membership and invest more in defence.

Update on the government formation process in #Romania:

Following my appointment by the 🇷🇴President on Thursday, 17 September, I started working on the governing programme together with our three coalition partners: the two @EPP member parties, PNL and RMDSZ, and the @RenewEurope member party, USR.

We are closely aligning our positions on both the process and the governing programme.

Yesterday and today, during official meetings of their parliamentary groups, all three parties confirmed their support for me.

Today, I will present the main priorities of our governing programme. By the end of the week, I will present the Cabinet and submit both the programme and the Cabinet to Parliament for approval.

I expect the parliamentary hearings to take place on Monday, 28 September, followed by the plenary vote on Tuesday, 29 September.

Romania needs a credible government as soon as possible.

This is why I have accepted the Romanian President’s proposal to form a government.

Our citizens need predictability. All our partners must be able to rely on a credible and responsible Romania.

The EU–Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement #CETA shows what stronger cooperation can deliver.

Since 2017, it has eliminated tariffs on 98% of tariff lines, opening new opportunities for businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.

In an uncertain world, Europe must deepen its ties with reliable partners. #Canada is one of them.

Met Ireland’s Tánaiste and Finance Minister @SimonHarrisTD to discuss the next steps in the MFF negotiations.

@Europarl_EN adopted its position in May and has been ready to negotiate since. Ireland now leads the work in the Council.

We agree that negotiations should advance swiftly towards a timely and balanced deal. I stressed that the next EU budget must fund security and competitiveness without weakening support for agriculture and cohesion. #MFF @Ireland2026eu

Technology must work for people, not people for technology.

This is why @Europarl_EN proposes a digital levy on tech giants, as a new own resource for the #EUbudget.

The choice is clear: either tech giants pay for access to our Single Market, or EU cuts funding for security, research, farmers and regions.

We will not weaken Europe just to give Elon Musk free access to our market.

New own resources mean a strong budget for a strong Europe.

The enemies of our democracy exist inside and outside our borders. We know it.

We must expose the risks posed by populists and autocrats and defend our democratic order, free speech and a free press.

President @vonderleyen has just invited #Canada to become the EU’s first associate member.

At a time when autocracies seek to divide us, democracies must stand closer together. A stronger EU–Canada partnership will make us safer and more competitive.

Russia is attacking every European democracy.

The @Europarl_EN backed the European Democracy Shield to counter Russian disinformation, online manipulation and foreign interference with common European tools.

Today, at Finland’s border with Russia, one fact is clear: Russia will not be deterred by 27 fragmented budgets. It can be deterred by a strong EU budget that prioritises defence and border protection.

€1 invested jointly in European defence delivers better results than €3 spent separately by three Member States.

European cooperation means stronger security and better value for taxpayers.

Today, we were at Finland’s border with Russia during our working visit to the country.

Finland’s border is Europe’s border. Its defence is our defence.

Europe must invest together in border security, defence and military mobility.
