this one really got to me. Watching these men patiently work together to pull this giant moose out of that thick black oil pit, carefully tying the rope around her legs, using the car to gently drag her out, then wiping all that oil off her body with real care… and then seeing her stand up on those shaky legs, look back at them almost like she was saying thank you, and slowly walk away into the trees. That is pure heart. The way they treated her with so much patience and respect shows what real care for animals looks like. Moments like this restore a little faith.

• Marine Le Pen: He called her "France's last hope."

• Călin Georgescu, the Romanian far-right populist: He defended Georgescu after he was detained for questioning over alleged campaign finance violations.

• Geert Wilders, the Dutch far-right populist politician: He agreed with Wilders' claim that immigration by non-Western asylum seekers was causing the "collapse of our own culture and Western values."

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez visited the fire zone near Madrid and said the priority was to "save lives" while warning that a "complex" fight lay ahead. His government declared a national emergency.
