I was sorry to hear of the passing of Mississippi coaching legend Harvey Childers. When I got my first job in sports media 22 years ago, coach Harvey was coaching at Ripley and I covered his squad going to the state tournament 4 straight years. Always very gracious and years later he was open to talk basketball whenever I saw him.

Harvey Childers finished his legendary coaching career with an overall record of 1,013 wins and just 305 losses. He compiled an 821-270 record at the high school level, winning state championships at New Albany in 1977 and 1985. His 1985 team completed an undefeated season and is considered one of the best in state history.

Childers later earned 192 victories during a seven-year tenure at Northeast Mississippi Community College, leading the Tigers to the NJCAA national championship game in 1989. He recorded his 1,000th career victory while coaching at Ripley and was inducted into the Mississippi Community and Junior College Sports Hall of Fame.

Big Congrats to Booneville High School graduate and current Southeastern Louisiana pitcher Hallie Burns on being named the Sports Illustrated National Pitcher of the Week! Hallie is one of the best to ever do it in MS HS softball!

@WorldExposureWB Odds are she plays in the SEC next season. She played really well against her SEC opponents this year as a freshman. She does all things that win basketball games well and I imagine there is a lot of interest in her joining several different programs.
