🇸🇴 Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, H.E. Professor Salim Alio Ibro @SomaliaMolsa, officially opened the Horn of Africa Confederation of Trade Unions (HACTU) General Assembly in Mogadishu.
He underlined Somalia’s commitment to social dialogue and stressed that free movement must go hand in hand with decent work, workers’ rights and protection.
“The presence of trade union leaders from across the region in Mogadishu shows how Somalia values free and independent trade unions and respects their right to organise and carry out their work freely in our country,” he added. @ituc_africa@ituc
HACTU, an IGAD-recognised organisation that represents workers, is supported by the @ILO and the European Union (EU).
Today, I officially opened the HACTU General Assembly in Mogadishu, bringing together trade union leaders from across the Horn of Africa.

The Ministry of Labour & Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia participated in the Implementation Support Mission for BOOST YOU (Baxnaano) in Nairobi, a week-long engagement to accelerate implementation and strengthen coordination with partners.
The mission was officially opened by H.E. Prof. Salim Aliyow Ibrow, Minister of Labour & Social Affairs.
Participants included World Bank TTL Ali Qureshi, WFP representatives, and Baxnaano Program Manager Fardosa Ahmed, who highlighted the program’s importance to both the Government and the people of Somalia.
The Director General of the Ministry, Mohamed Saney Dalmar, commended the progress achieved over the years and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening the program.
The Director of Social Affairs, Suhayb Dek Mahamoud, and senior advisors also shared key insights on improving social protection services.

The Acting Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, who is also the Deputy Minister of the @SomaliaMolsa, Hon. Amina Hussein Ali, today took part in a highly successful and well-attended International Labour Day commemoration, organised by the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (@festusomalia) with support from the International Labour Organization (@ILO).
The event brought together over 1,000 workers' representatives, government officials and social partners in a strong demonstration of shared commitment to advancing a decent work agenda. It highlighted the central role of workers in sustainable development and reinforced the importance of promoting and protecting fundamental principles and rights at work, including freedom of association, dignity and equality. The discussions further underscored growing momentum towards investment in employment-intensive job creation for decent work and inclusive labour market development.
Hon. Amina reaffirmed the government’s firm commitment to strengthening the implementation of labour legislation in line with international labour standards and to advancing policies that support decent work and expanded employment opportunities. She also commended the active and constructive role of workers’ organisations affiliated with FESTU in promoting effective social dialogue and collaboration with government and employers to deliver tangible progress in job creation, skills development and the protection of workers’ rights.
