@jla_laursen Bemærk dit eget “principielt”. Spaniens Schengen-protokol undtager netop Ceuta og Melilla fra den frie bevægelighed: systematisk kontrol på alle forbindelser til fastlandet. Man står på EU-jord — men kan ikke rejse videre. Funktionelt: et modtagecenter i Nordafrika. QED.

Trump has to accept that he has lost this war and cut a deal. The fallout will be generational, this is a complete disaster for the region, but that’s what happens when you start a war half-cocked. The US and Gulf states don’t have the ammunition (offensive or defensive) to meaningfully achieve the desired strategic effect. Iran’s missile threat and control of Hormuz give it decisive levers. We just watched US deterrence and hard power die in real time.

About Ceuta. A lot of reports outside Spain (I've seen quite a few in 🇫🇷 🇬🇧🇩🇪) are getting it wrong

Ceuta is 𝐧𝐨𝐭 in Europe. It's a Spanish enclave in Africa and as such has a special border regime. Reaching Ceuta does not mean you've reached mainland Spain (and therefore Schengen) for which you need either a visa or refugee status. Most of the desperate migrants from Morocco will be returned before they can travel onwards into mainland Spain

The question no one outside Spain asks is why this is happening. Sanchez visited Algeria this week, which greatly angered Morocco. These kind of images, often without the above context, greatly embarras Sanchez and whip up the usual RW hysteria about "being invaded"

- US Congress declares the Spanish exclaves Ceuta and Melilla to be Moroccan
- Morocco names it's new highway after Trump
- a horde of Moroccan immigrants floods into Spain
- immediately the global MAGA media machine spins up, gleefully supported by it's Israeli allies, to tear into Spain
