Memes for the soundtrack community. Fighting for artistic integrity in the industry. Opinions are my own. I have a deadpan and hyperbolic writing style.
if I had a nickel for every time a theatrically released Star Wars film connected to a tv series had a plot revolving around rescuing Rotta the Hutt, I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
@liamdude57 The score doesn’t feel like Star Wars at all. Some of it sounds like EDM that was made on GarageBand. The best parts are Göransson revisiting his original themes with minimal variations or originality. This score is atrocious compared to what Giacchino and Powell delivered.
What happened to Star Wars? This isn’t the way. The cinematic directing of J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson is sorely missed. Göransson’s score is also embarrassingly bad for someone of his stature. I wonder how much of the score was ghostwritten by Joe “Schmo” Shirley.
Yo, guys. The original winner of the 2025 International Film Music Competition was disqualified after it was discovered that the submission was entirely plagiarized, mostly from John Williams music. The jury, led by Hildur Guðnadóttir, did not notice.

Absolutely disgusting! This man can’t even read music! I would love to be proven wrong, but more than half the time, Zimmer doesn’t know what he’s doing anymore. There are dozens of composers who deserve this more than him. Shame on the Warner Bros. executives.
Hans Zimmer is set to compose HBO's "Harry Potter" original score with Bleeding Fingers musicians Kara Talve and Anže Rozman.
"The musical legacy of 'Harry Potter' is a touch point for composers everywhere and we are humbled to join such a remarkable team on a project of this magnitude. The responsibility is something that myself, Kara Talve and Anže Rozman do not take lightly," Zimmer said in a statement. "Magic is all around us, often just beyond reach, but as in the world of 'Harry Potter,' you simply must look for it. With this score we hope to bring audiences that little bit closer to it whilst honoring what has come before."

MuseScore is definitely the spiritual successor to Finale. It’s the only notation software that feels even remotely like Finale. It lets you put notes on the page with chords. 😮
I haven’t bought Notion 6 yet though. That one looks more similar to Finale than Dorico or Sibelius.
Question for composers: Do you compose in notation software or directly in a DAW?
I have always composed in notation software. Lately I have been having a lot of trouble having inspiration from not having access to my samples in notation. The MuseScore playback engine is meh.
The entire world needs to know which companies are responsible for killing NotePerformer’s innovative technology that allowed users’ legally-purchased sample libraries to be used on notation software without needing a supercomputer.

Michael Giacchino: "If I don't make a whimsical pun every three minutes, I'm gonna die!"
Alexandre Desplat: "𝕋𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕚𝕤 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕞𝕦𝕤𝕚𝕔 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕙𝕒𝕡𝕡𝕖𝕟𝕤 𝕚𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕤𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕖."
@DougAdamsMusic I find it fascinating how different people respond differently to certain Desplat scores. I think his Potter scores are fabulous and epic. I have every note of them memorized by heart.
