4/4 What good outcome can there be when you teach someone not to accept themselves and behave like something they are not?
It IS traumatic.

1/4 The whole concept of "converting" the behavior of an autistic person into a neurotypical behavior equals lack of acceptance and lack of understanding of our neurotype.

3/4 Basically what aba does is forcing autistics into masking their traits and not accepting themselves.
Just because it's "baptized" as therapy, doesn't mean it is good.

Today I'm talking about #Masking. 🧡
Before my diagnosis, I was studying facial expressions and body language in order to act "appropriately" to any situation, and also to be able to understand other people's intentions.
If you do that too, well I've got news!

@AutieSpark In my country, Greece, we're told to look people in the eye so we prove that we don't lie, that we listen to the person who is speaking, and several other stupid reasons. 🤦♀️
#Masking is a mechanism. We, #autistics learn behaviors, reactions, facial expressions and body language, in order to hide our #autistic traits. Undiagnosed autistics use this because they know they're different and try to act as neurotypicals.
#autismacceptance#ASD#SPECNET
@AutieSpark Me too! I was so surprised when I found out! It's a big chapter among our traits and it's very important because there are misdiagnosis, undiagnosed people and lack of acceptance due to our ability to mask.
