whenever i have to fact check luke's shitty pieces i like that pro-football-reference is fast and lightweight. they once asked if they should "update" their look and we resoundingly said no. first place i go to for research and the hub is fantastic for it.

OTD in 1998, @rogerclemens struck out 15 Orioles on 133 pitches over 8 innings to notch his 20th win of the season. Scott Erickson (also a NEPTA guy!) threw 128 pitches in a complete-game loss as Baltimore took the tough-luck defeat by a final score of 3-1.
Is this an old-fashioned pitching box score or what?
Sign up for Sports Reference Hub to get lots more fun OTD items right on your homepage. It's free and it's awesome!

Jalen Williams is due for a healthy bounce-back season for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2026-2027!
I think JDub will get back to over 20 PPG, and I'll be keeping track of his numbers this season and tons of other great stats with Sports Reference's new "Sports Reference Hub"
Some more of the new Sports Reference Hub OTD widget in action: birthdays and notable games across all teams or specific teams, right on your Sports Reference homepage. The birthdays are sorted by WAR in the widget, but if you click "full list," you can sort by anything you want!
Randy Arozarena 🇨🇺 is the 4th Cuban-born player since 2000 to score 100+ runs in a single MLB season.
With Sports Reference Hub, customize any search and dive deeper into the world of stats.

love the way I follow the league, but I've always respected and kinda envied fans who only follow one team. atp that's out of the question for me w the NBA, but maybe I could do it in another sport. I've started by adding the Pats to my Sports Reference Hub

According to the Sports Reference Hub, the top two players in NBA history (by win shares) with September 19 birthdays are both active.
Trae Young is 3rd all time in assists per game (behind only Magic Johnson and John Stockton).
CJ McCollum is 6th all time in total 20 PTS/gm seasons at his height (6'3") or shorter.

Harvey Haddix (born on this day in 1925) once retired a record 36 batters in a row. His twelve consecutive perfect innings are still the most in a single game.

one thing i've enjoyed about the sports-reference family of sites is that search has updated and improved; it can search across different databases and even account for misspellings, something that was an issue before. this isn't new but i do appreciate it more now using the hub
The Buffalo Bills widget on Sports Reference Hub highlights Josh Allen's 5-touchdown performance from last night.
Allen now has 76.5 fantasy points, which is the second most ever through a team's first two games of a season. Only Jim Brown (who, needless to say, played prior to the advent of fantasy football) had a bigger two-game start to a campaign.

Last night’s Red Sox game was an absolute banger (shoutout Trevor Story), and it’s awesome to be able to look back on it in depth with Sports Reference’s new and fully customizable Hub! You can do this for all your favorite teams!
Jordan Love wasn’t the only player who balled out in Week 1 for the Packers.
Christian Watson totaled 147 receiving yards and snagged two TDs.
His 147 receiving yards are the 5th most in the NFL after last night’s TNF game, and he’s one of only 3 Green Bay receivers in franchise history to total 100+ receiving yards and 2 receiving TDs in Week 1 of the season.
• Christian Watson — 147 yards, 2 TD — Sept. 13, 2026 vs. Minnesota Vikings
• Davante Adams — 156 yards, 2 TD — Sept. 13, 2020 at Minnesota Vikings
• Antonio Freeman — 110 yards, 2 TD — Sept. 6, 1998 vs. Detroit Lions

It's been 106 years since Bobby Veach and George Burns hit for the cycle on the same day.
The only other time that's happened was when Adrian Beltre and Stephen Drew(!) did it on 9/1/2008.
