👉History on Stamps - Botswana 🇧🇼
A collection of "Favorite Stamps of Five Decades," issued by @Botswana_Post in 2016, illustrates themes that reveal Botswana's environmental, cultural and historical heritage.

This particular NFT stamp from the set commemorating Self-Government was designed by Mike Bryan and dedicated to President, Sir Seretse Khama. Botswana was self-governing for nineteen months prior to Independence.
Sir Seretse Goitsebeng Maphiri Khama was born into a royal family and was a legitimate claimant to the throne of the Bamangwato chiefdom. He was educated in South Africa and Great Britain. When he returned home he led his country's independence movement. In 1962 he founded the Botswana Democratic Party and a few years later became Prime Minister. In 1966 Botswana became independent and Seretse Khama was elected its first President and was subsequently re-elected three times. During his presidency, Botswana went from one of the poorest countries to one of the fastest growing economies in the world, showing rapid economic and social progress. Sir Seretse Goitsebeng Maphiri Khama died in 1980 while serving as president of the Republic of Botswana.
