For John, better hearing means a better day at work.

John Tirusasira is a 44-year-old commercial motorcycle rider from Bugiri District, Uganda. Every day, his customers rely on him to get where they need to go. But for years, hearing loss made it difficult for John to understand their directions and communicate along the way.

On World Hearing Day, John received hearing aids. Today, he can hear his customers more clearly, communicate with greater ease, and do his job with more confidence.

John recently returned for aftercare and a new supply of batteries, an important part of helping ensure he continues to benefit from his hearing aids long after his initial fitting.

Because access to hearing healthcare is about more than hearing. It is about connection, independence, and the ability to keep moving forward.

With a bright smile and a world of curiosity, this little girl has so much ahead of her. After receiving her hearing aids, she began taking one of her very first steps toward developing spoken language.

As her mother softly repeated, "Mama," one of our volunteers gently placed the little girl's hand on her throat, helping her feel the vibrations that create the sound. Listening, feeling, and trying again, she slowly formed the word for the very first time.

At just 18 years old, Rasul Ratib navigates the busy streets of Koboko every day as a tricycle driver. When his hearing aid was stolen, he lost an important connection to the sounds that help him move safely through traffic.

During a visit to Starkey Hearing Foundation's service center, Rasul received a new body hearing aid. His smile said everything.

Now he's back on the road with greater confidence, listening for the sounds that help keep him safe, support his work, and move him toward the future he's building.

The World Cup Final is set, and 11-year-old Bryan can’t wait to cheer for Argentina. Cristiano Ronaldo may be his favorite player, but this weekend he is all in for Argentina.

A few months ago, Bryan’s hearing aids broke while he was playing soccer, making communication at school and at home difficult again.

At a Starkey Hearing Foundation aftercare clinic, Bryan received new hearing aids. He was especially excited that they were smaller because kids had teased him about his old ones.

With his hearing restored and his confidence back, Bryan celebrated the only way a Ronaldo fan knows how...

For 15-year-old Kibirango Hatima, hearing clearly means more than simply listening. It means learning with confidence, participating in class, and believing in what's possible.

As a student at Emirates College Nkoowe in Uganda, hearing loss once made it difficult to follow lessons and keep up with her classmates. Since receiving hearing aids, she can hear her teachers clearly, engage in class with confidence, and her academic performance has improved.

This week, Hatima returned to Starkey Hearing Foundation’s Aftercare Center in Kampala after noticing one of her hearing aids was no longer providing the amplification she needed. Her device was adjusted to better match her hearing needs, and she received additional counseling to help ensure she continues getting the most from her hearing aids.

Because hearing healthcare doesn't end with the first fitting.

Through ongoing aftercare, we help make sure children like Hatima continue to hear, learn, and grow with confidence, giving them every opportunity to build the future they deserve.

When hearing loss is identified early, children have the opportunity to develop speech and language, build confidence, succeed in school, and stay connected to the people who love them most.

"This completes me," Kabwe shared. "Seeing children who were once unable to hear now smile as they turn toward their mother. Watching that connection be restored is what makes this work so meaningful."
