The second paper from my PhD is finally out in @NatureMicrobiol! TraDIS on IncC conjugation.
Thanks to @pmduy,
@LabSchembri. Some really cool structural biology by Lou Zhenyao and Bostjan Kobe.

Very excited to share our work on NMEC led by @nhunguyen2811 (under review by eLife). We highlight that even with appropriate antibiotic treatment, causative NMEC that resides intestinally might not be eliminated and can cause relapse.

@kaczmarski_joe This is neat. Is it possible to add functionality for showing domains? Colouring and labelling. Is there a way to show a deletion in the centre of the protein?
We discussed shipping strains today and it was surprising to me how much of it is still done in LB agar stabs. That is risky if genomic integrity matters - see paper below and this short thread 🦠📬👇🏼. 1/4

We are looking for a postdoc or research associate/technician to join a multidisciplinary team on an antibiotic discovery project combining high-throughput microscopy, imaging AI, and chemical AI. See https://t.co/Z1xV7MrAUJ. Apply at [email protected].
Political interference in the selection of research grants is eroding Australia’s international reputation and the integrity of Australia’s research system. Of the 4 known occurrences of political interference, 3 have occurred in the last three years. https://t.co/VMxrshUusY
Still time to apply for a PhD project in my lab to investigate the interface between K. pneumoniae T6SS and macrophages. Fun project in an international and supportive environment.https://t.co/awfAmOscar
What factors are required for bacterial fighting? Our latest study in @NAR_Open shows that the H2-T6SS and its effectors requires the regulators Sfa2 and RpoN in #Pseudomonas Great work @AlColls Eleanor @towo_towo@FillouxLab @CMBI_Imperial @ImperialNHLI https://t.co/OLt7zBVYra
RpoN/Sfa2-dependent activation of the P. aeruginosa H2-T6SS and its cognate arsenal of antibacterial toxins.

The plasmid gene aac(6’)-Ib-cr confers 4x increase in MIC to cipro in strains already harbour resistant gyrA and parC mutations. This dual resistance combination shows strong association with emerging carbapenem resistant clones.

Excited to announce that the 661K resource is now live at Plos Biology @PLOSBiology

We uniformly assembled, ran quality control and performed general characterisation on 661,405 bacterial genomes that were in the ENA at the end of November 2018.
