One of our favorite antique pieces is this Queen Anne secretary/bookcase attributed to Elijah Booth (Woodbury, CT). Although documented furniture tied to Elijah Booth does not exist directly- this piece has the longest attribution to him #queenanne#woodbury#americana
The interior shutters (in the two front rooms on the lower level) are original to the house and never have been painted. While we were tempted to paint them- we decided not to be the first owners in 260 years to do so.
The first picture (hand-tinted) entitled “A Glance in Passing” is dated 1908. The second picture (dated the near the same time) entitled “Who’s in the Parlor?” was published in Nutting’s “Connecticut Beautiful” (1935). The last picture is the foyer today.
The main bedroom originally featured wallpaper (1789) printed by French firm Jacquemart et Bénard. In the1920s, all of the wallpaper was sold to Winterthur. The first pictures show the wallpaper displayed at Winterthur. The circa 1900 pic shows the wallpaper in the main bedroom
