👷🏫 Families of Corbiewood Primary School pupils got a final preview of the new school as they joined construction partners for a site visit only a few weeks away from completion.
A state-of-the-art seven-classroom facility is being constructed to serve the emerging South Stirling Gateway community by McLaughlin & Harvey through the SCAPE Scotland framework. It is currently scheduled to open to pupils in the coming weeks.

✅ Complex and careful restoration of the Christie Clock is now well underway, with a revised completion date of March 2027.
Significant progress has already been made on a range of specialist off-site activities, including stone conservation, clock restoration and metalwork refurbishment.
The procurement of the replacement stone is also in hand, all planned to ensure the successful delivery of the important heritage project.
Preparations at the site will begin in late October, with the first phase of works focusing on the existing clock tower base which will commence at the start of November. Scaffolding will then be erected ahead of reconstruction works of the clock tower starting in January, with overall project completion scheduled for the end of March 2027.
At a Special Meeting of Stirling Council in February, expenditure of £898,000 for the restoration of the much-loved city centre clock was approved.
Originally, it was hoped the work would be completed by the end of October 2026, but the delivery programme has been extended after the restoration approach and programme were revised on the advice of architects, the main contractor and conservators. The overall projected costs remain unchanged.
All the site works will be contained within the vicinity of the public space in the vicinity of the plinth (between Park Terrace and Melville Terrace), which includes the fountain and seating area. Road closures or restrictions will only be required on specific occasions for large deliveries or heavy lifting activities.
Further communications will be shared about this in advance of works starting, including direct engagement with residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity of the site.

💬 A survey has been launched about the future of Stirling Council’s alcohol byelaws.
This consultation is seeking residents’ views on whether the council’s current alcohol byelaws remain necessary, appropriate and effective.
It will also ask whether any changes should be made, including whether the byelaws should be extended to other areas, such as Aberfoyle.
The council is reviewing the Prohibition of the Drinking of Alcohol in Public Places Byelaw 1998 (as amended). Byelaws must be reviewed every 10 years. The council’s alcohol byelaws were last reviewed in 2016.
By taking part in the survey, you will help inform decisions about the future of the alcohol byelaws and what they contain.
If the consultation indicates that the byelaws should be amended or revoked, any proposed changes would require a further decision by Stirling Council and would be subject to the relevant statutory process.

💬 The specialist support that will help businesses prepare for the introduction of Stirling’s Visitor Levy has been highlighted to key representatives from the region’s tourism sector.
Members of Stirling Visitor Levy Forum held their second meeting at the Lodge Forest Visitor Centre near Aberfoyle earlier this month to review Stirling’s preparations for the scheme and the process for investment decisions from its proceeds.
They were joined by Council Officers and Charles McGuigan who has been appointed as the Stirling Visitor Levy Implementation Advisor – a role created by the council and Stirling Enterprise Park (STEP). Working within STEP’s Business Support Team, he will support the regional tourism sector as they gear-up for the levy going live June 2027.
Addressing the meeting, Charles outlined the comprehensive programme of local engagement, workshops and practical individual support for both urban and rural businesses to ensure they are ready for implementation of the levy. This included a rural business meeting, organised by STEP, that took place on 23 September.
Other outcomes from meeting included:
➡ The appointment of Neil Munday – whose company operates King Street Aparthotel in Stirling – as vice-chair of the forum.
➡ An examination of a proposed governance structure involving the forum, council officers and elected members.
➡ Support for clear communications, transparency of assessments, scrutiny of additional benefits and the consideration of multiple funding supports via the levy.
➡ An update on the process for checking provider records, activating accounts and submitting levy returns.

✅ Works to deliver a new walking, cycling and wheeling route that will link Bridge of Allan to Stirling will get underway on Monday 5 October.
The project will connect Bridge of Allan (at the junction of Keir Street and Fountain Road) with the Walk, Cycle, Live Stirling infrastructure on Airthrey Road (at the Hillfoots Road junction) near the University of Stirling.
Funded by Transport Scotland’s Active Travel Infrastructure Fund, the works will begin on Keir Street and with this phase lasting for 12 weeks.
The designs for the project, which is due to be competed in late autumn 2027, have been informed by a public consultation that took place in 2025.
For Keir Street, this will see the addition of traffic calming measures as well as surface alterations to discourage speeding and reinforce the Highway Code at junctions. There will be no cycle lanes or narrowing of the road on Keir Street and on-street parking will be maintained.
Temporary signs have been installed to advise people of the works, while letters have been sent to residents and businesses in the vicinity of Kier Street with more information. This includes details on temporary local road closures and traffic management measures to ensure the safety of road users, pedestrians and workers.
With Cornton Road subject to temporary traffic lights during the phased construction of the Bridge of Allan Flood Protection Scheme, work on Keir Street will be carefully coordinated to minimise impacts to residents and road users.
Environment, Transport and Net Zero Convener Cllr Alasdair Tollemache said: “We were delighted to secure funding from Transport Scotland for this important project which will connect Bridge of Allan to Stirling along safe and accessible active travel routes.
“It will give residents and visitors the option to walk or cycle to reach work, schools, parks, shops, university or college, public transport hubs, attractions and other destinations.
“The new infrastructure will deliver a wide range of environmental, social and economic benefits and it will link to other current and planned active routes, supporting our wider efforts to create an integrated public transport and active travel network.
“The design of the route including on Keir Street has been informed by feedback we received in surveys to help it meet the needs of local communities. Residents have also shared concerns for some time about excess speeding on Keir Street.
“We will continue to engage with residents and business throughout the works and aim to minimise disruption as much as possible.”

🙌 📚 Bloody Scotland 2026 maintained the significant jump in sales it saw last year with 12,000 tickets sold for the three-day festival in Stirling and sell-out events across six venues.
The Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival closed its 15th edition with Director, Bob McDevitt inviting Val McDermid, live on stage, to be guest programmer for 2027.
She will be the third guest programmer, following in the footsteps of Sir Ian Rankin in 2025 and Denise Mina who delivered an outstanding programme this year, chairing all of her guest events and hosting a night at the Church of the Holy Rude with an exclusive reading from the forthcoming play, Huntly.
Denise and Val were the stars of the final event of Bloody Scotland 2026 at the end of which Festival Director, Bob McDevitt invited the entire team on stage to thank Denise and pass the baton to Val McDermid.
She said: "I'm thrilled -- and terrified -- to have been chosen as guest programmer for Bloody Scotland. I've loved the festival from its very beginnings and watching it grow to showcase the best of the genre has been a delight. Denise Mina did a magnificent job this year and has left me with very big shoes to fill, so now I have to put my mind to creating a killer programme for 2027!"
Bloody Scotland saw a significant jump in sales last year with the first guest programmer, Sir Ian Rankin. and maintained that this year with Denise at the helm with 12,000 tickets sold for the three-day festival – excluding author, guest and press passes.
Waterstones reported that book sales, which have increased exponentially over the last two years increased by a further 6.8% in 2026. The bestselling title was Lucy Foley with Murder at the Alpine Hotel followed by Frances Crawford’s double prize winner, A Bad, Bad Place.
Sellout events over six different venues in Stirling included Lee Child, Department Q and Richard Osman at The Albert Halls, Stirling, Call the Polis at The Golden Lion Ballroom, all three sessions of You the Jury at the Sheriff’s Court, Can You Solve The Murder at Cowanes, Karaoke at the Coo at The Curly Coo Whisky Bar and the Debut Prize Panel at Made In Stirling.
The digital component again increased the festival’s international reach with viewers in the US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Finland, France, Argentina, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Greece, New Zealand, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and Denmark.
Stirling Central Library was the location for Pitch Perfect – sponsored by Whodunnit Magazine - which was won by unpublished Edinburgh based author Caroline Grebbell for Songs of Trojan Mothers.
Stirling Council Leader, Cllr Susan McGill said: "This was another memorable edition of Bloody Scotland which continues to grow in stature and popularity year-on-year. More venues in Stirling hosted events than ever before as top authors and book fans from across the world mingled together, generating an electric atmosphere across the city.
"We had great storylines emerge at the festival including Frances Crawford becoming a very well- deserved first double winner of the two main prizes. Stirling was alive with culture and creativity as people packed into venues to hear from the biggest names and best new talent in crime-writing, with conversations spilling out onto our streets and into our cafes, bars, restaurants and hotels.
"We are proud to be the home of Bloody Scotland. It’s truly a world-class festival that brings so much to Stirling, from economic benefits to enriching our cultural life. My thanks to everyone involved in delivering such a successful event and we look forward to welcoming everyone back again in 2027."
Bob McDevitt, Festival Director said: "I think this has been my favourite Bloody Scotland yet - there was such a lovely atmosphere and I took great pride in watching so many people just having a brilliant time. I've been soothing my post-festival blues by catching up online with some panels I missed - and each one is bringing back a flood of happy memories of an epic weekend!"
