In 1869, John Derby Allcroft, bought the castle & began extensive & sympathetic repairs. It is a monument to the art of unobtrusive restoration. He built Stokesay Court & ‘decided that the Castle should be left empty but kept safe & sound as a historic monument’.

Another visit today to Stokesay #Castle (it’s not possible to make too many visits). Built in the late 13th Century and ‘modernised’ in the 17th Century when the timber framed gatehouse replaced an earlier one.
