It’s no longer about systems or individuals, it is coaching and it’s culture, yet again.
This isn’t a team being coached or working in training to fix up its issues or undergoing a mindset shift.
It’s a passive team with bad habits not being addressed.
Just not tolerable.
No matter what happens 2nd half, this is absolutely unacceptable and it starts with Alonso.
You can blame defenders but at this point, everyone has made a schoolboy error.
It’s a team-wide lack of seriousness and determination to defend, and a pathetic lack of organization.
Barco as well, but he clearly needs a physical partner with him, to allow him to join attacks.
With Caicedo or James, you feel good with him for 80% of PL games.
Lad plays with intensity, needs to be a bit smarter going about it, but the right intensity for this league.
Out of the "B team" Chavarria continues to be the most reliable. Would like to see him more in a back 4.
CBs were poor but if we’re aggressive, we also need better defensive rotations and assignment switches. You will lose one duel, you can’t lose the next one etc.
Work to do.
It’s best we’ve got a light schedule, depth qualitatively is just not great.
Alonso needs to switch to a back 4 full time and work on that system. If you don’t have a 6, make your team press high and be front footed.
Whole team defensively has to get its shit together.
That starts with set-pieces,
We no longer have an excuse, whomever the SP coach is, I don’t care.
1st contact, 2nd contact, second phases/balls of SP. Full week? Work on SP until you get it right. It needs fixing ASAP.
Attack won’t bail us out all the time. Time to get serious.

I don’t get the rationale behind not playing Watson vs Luton then throwing him vs a very physical PL side.
Midfield outmatched, no outlet to beat out pressure, poor vs SP, bad turnovers w/ Estevao & Gusto particularly guilty.
Lucky to be only 1-0 down. Lots of work/subs to do.
@rndmburneracct They don’t play free, and they don’t seem to enjoy their football. Everything feels like a grind, even when we dominate or are doing the correct things tactically. It’s the vibe you got with Eidevall at Arsenal. They also had the xG and chances, but everything felt tense.
Like I’m sorry but Arsenal have a set XI, key stars fit, formation and patterns of play set. No congested schedule. Set pieces, OOP, they’re as complete as you get. You’re playing them at their best.
Alonso doesn’t even know what formation to go with. It’s very, very early!
I think if we were somehow as good as an Arsenal side, Top 3 sides in Europe, 5 years in the making, and just dismantled City, by matchday 3, then in that case it means we wouldn’t have needed Alonso at all.
A lot to work on, but there’s a lot of good things here to compete.
@inbetweenervgd Next couple of games should give Barco better opportunities to play, thought Lavia was pretty good! It’s a couple of situations where we’re still missing the proper details OOP. It’s largely correctable.
Not discouraged by that. Made a game of it, Arsenal are a reactive side who were gonna blitz vs an early goal.
Frustrating but toughest fixture out of the way.
3 games in, there’s a lot of detail missing, visible on many phases, but thought we got better as game went on.
Lots to learn for XA, which is good, switch to back 4 was the correct decision, more Estevao minutes, attacking FBs.
Season truly starts now, where we face completely different styles of teams.
If your expectations pre-game were correctly aligned with reality, it’s about right.

We’re playing Arsenal at their peak and they’re consistent and optimized in every phase, they’re the benchmark.
It’s fine with me. We can get a lot better in many, many ways.
The key is to keep getting better and better.
That’s the goal from now on until the game at the Bridge.
Back 4, green flag. In hindsight, this wasn’t the game for Josh, Tzolis doesn’t go on the outside. Gusto RB would have supported attacking phases better.
Need to get Colwill inside this back 4 for the buildup. Fofana carried progression, but Lacroix is our worst CB on the ball.
I really really like that Strasbourg picked up Reyna for cheap. The strategy of rehabilitation projects of past wunderkids is a really good one for them, perfect environment for special talents hungry to rebound. Worked with Enciso and why I wanted Mudryk to go there.
Shame there’s no Caicedo still, that’s a game changer for us and I’d be far more optimistic with him.
But it’s a free hit too-early big game, so I wouldn’t risk him at all. Ideally he doesn’t go with Ecuador for their friendlies. We badly need him with current options.
If it’s a back 4, correct process vs FB underlaps, it would be very easy to exploit WBs & wide CBs trapped by the confusion of double assignments.
Rogers has to work hard.
2026 undid encouraging leaps made over 24´ & 25´ in big games - an early test to see where we’re at.
