Sign of the times: Qatar — the world's biggest LNG exporter before the war — is now in talks to buy U.S. LNG under long-term contracts.
That's a stunning reversal.
The Iran war knocked out two of Qatar's 14 LNG trains at Ras Laffan (3–5 year repair timeline, ~$20 billion/year in lost revenue), and the Strait of Hormuz is too dangerous for regular tanker traffic.
Result: A 96% drop in exports — just 18 cargoes shipped in six months versus 509 in the same period a year earlier, costing an estimated $24 billion.

“Algiers has effectively concluded that Abu Dhabi's regional playbook - cultivating what I call an 'axis of secessionists,' from Haftar in Libya to the RSF in Sudan to the southern movement in Yemen - was being turned toward Algeria itself,” said @andreas_krieg , reacting to the decision.

If the US doesn’t intervene then Saudi Arabia won’t spend a single cent on air operations alongside the Yemeni government
The Bab el Mandeb Strait will become a global problem just like the Strait of Hormuz
Then the whole world will have to get involved. We won’t fight the Houthis alone and bear the cost
The whole world has a responsibility to protect international shipping routes 😎
🚨🇺🇸🇸🇦 Trump Rejects Saudi Appeal for Military Intervention as Mecca Pact Fails First Test
Following Houthi attacks on Saudi territory, MBS reportedly called Trump twice urging immediate US intervention. US officials stated the administration does not intend to take direct military action at this time.
The urgent appeal followed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and Riyadh’s disappointment with Turkey and Pakistan, whose responses under the newly signed Mecca Joint Defense Agreement were limited to statements of condemnation.

Qatar is in discussions to buy LNG from US suppliers under long-term agreements as the Iran war has crippled its ability to supply its own customers.
Qatar used to supply ~20% of the world’s LNG, but its shipments have all but stopped since the Iran war started in late Feb.
Smoke is rising from the East-West pipeline, the main oil pipeline available to Saudi Arabia to avoid the Strait of Hormuz.
The Houthis are stepping up a massive offensive against Ryihad.
We are really close to a major oil price spike and global energy shockwave.💥🇸🇦🇾🇪🇮🇷🧵
It's great to see so many reacting to this post. It clearly had an impact. Well done, sir. The truth always seems to hurt these individuals.
As I said before
@POTUS acknowledges the strong partnership between Qatar and the United States 🇺🇸🇶🇦. He highlights the forces I've mentioned that seek to portray Qatar as the villain, employing nasty tactics and disinformation campaigns to strain our relationship and shift the blame

It is deeply disappointing to see America’s senior-most representative to Israel @USAmbIsrael speak so disparagingly—and inaccurately—about Qatar, a Major Non-NATO Ally and key strategic partner of the United States.
For the record, once again: Qatar has nothing to do with antisemitism or anti-Israel sentiment on American college campuses. These allegations have been examined repeatedly and have not been substantiated at all. I and many others have addressed this point, repeatedly. Before the Senate Armed Services Committee, then Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines made clear there was no evidence linking Qatar to the campus protests in question.
The overwhelming majority of Qatar’s funding to these institutions supports the operation of their campuses in Qatar. These are large, fully functioning universities educating students in Qatar and across the region through American academic institutions and American educational standards. Because these are American universities, the funds generally flow through and are reported by their U.S.-based institutions. But that does not mean the money is being spent to influence students or political discourse on campuses in the United States. Once the costs associated with operating these campuses in Qatar are separated from the headline figures, Qatar’s direct philanthropic giving to universities inside the United States is comparatively limited.

Following #Iran ’s latest #attacks across the #Gulf and Jordan, #Tehran appears to be activating its remaining regional pressure tools, threatening the Strait of #Hormuz and disrupting maritime security.
— #Iran ’s regional tools are no longer expanding its power; they are expanding the geography of its losses.
— #Iran is playing exactly the game its adversaries want it to play - not the U.S. 🇺🇸 - an adversary behavior shaping strategy that expands the coalition against it.
— Continued #attacks across the #Gulf and against its neighbors will cost #Iran its remaining mediators and draw it into a broader confrontation with the #international community, including its closest allies.
— #Iran can widen the conflict. It cannot control who ultimately joins it. The age of #blackmailing the #world through Middle East instability is coming to an end.
Masks off.
Anyone who believes Iran and its supporters aren’t bad faith actors who’s only issue with Israel is competition over who gets to invade and control the Arab states is either a bad actor themselves or intellectually challenged.
They have left no room for confusion.
I extend my deepest condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, the members of the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar on the passing of his beloved father, His Highness Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The passing of a parent is one of life’s greatest sorrows. While the world remembers the late Father Amir for his visionary leadership, remarkable statesmanship, and his immense contribution to the development of modern Qatar, his family mourns the loss of a beloved father, cherished patriarch, and source of wisdom, love, and guidance.
On behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, and on my own behalf, I offer my heartfelt sympathies during this time of profound grief. May Almighty Allah grant the late Father Amir His infinite mercy and admit him into the highest ranks of Jannah, and may He grant His Highness, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar strength, patience, and comfort in the days ahead.
The Arab world, not just Qatar, has lost a giant with the passing of His Highness the Father Emir Shaikh Hamid bin Khalifah AlThani. Sheikh Hamid was unique among Arab rulers of my lifetime for placing the interests of his country and his people above his own.
رحم الله قائدًا صنع نهضة بلاده، وكان للبنان مكانة خاصة في قلبه، فبادله اللبنانيون المحبة والوفاء.

His Highness was a distinguished leader and a wise statesman. We will always remember with gratitude the value he placed on advancing relations with Türkiye, as well as his dedicated efforts toward regional and global peace and stability.
