7500+ new cursive characters/words written on Scribble this week
We'll start rolling out to the Waitlist in the coming weeks so make sure to join it if you'd like your child to learn cursive this summer https://t.co/aM73I1gieE
This is a must-read.
Education at scale is the biggest problem we need to solve.
Despite my being an AI Engineer, I wholly agree that universities categorizing AI use as legitimate scholarship, as long as it's footnoted, is wrong.
As @yacineMTB said, "You can outsource your thinking, but you cannot outsource your understanding."
Montessorium MAP growth for the year: 2x the norm in math, 2.8x reading, 3.7x language.
Our students who started behind are now on track or ahead. Our students who started ahead are more ahead.
My 6yo 20x’d reading (she was so ahead that MAP expected ~no growth) and 6x’d math.
The Timeback platform: the math is good, as are the vocab and grammar, but what I’m actually the most impressed by is how much factual knowledge 6yo learns from it.
Constant exposure to Things and Events and Times and Mechanisms. Continuously surprised by what she brings up.
@ flying colors, videos only take up about 1/5 min of each ‘learning episode’. the remaining 4/5 min is cognitive offloading to the student herself — pretrieval practice, deep note taking, retrieval, scaffolding, transference, etc.
Handwriting needs a comeback, and we're doing our part by making it more fun. ✍️
Scribble, our cursive handwriting app, is rolling out to @AlphaSchoolATX right now.
In the hallway today:
Student: "You're back! Can I get back on Scribble?"
Me: "Yes!"
Student: "Can I start now?"
We waste 90% of kids' time in school.
@shaneparrish asked the hard questions:
Why do $50K/yr private school students show up years behind?
Why did two-thirds of our high schoolers beg to skip summer vacation?
What happens when you finally give kids their time back.👇
@supitsrohan@PSkinnerTech@EpicGames@AlphaSchoolATX We build the TimeBack Platform and all the EdTech that allows students to complete their core curriculum in 2-3 hours/day while developing life skills for the rest of the school day.
If you're a game designer, software engineer, Marketing specialist, or anything adjacent to those roles, and you've been affected by the @EpicGames layoff, I'd love to chat about what we're doing at @AlphaSchoolATX and @Superbuilders.
We're out to accelerate education for 1 billion kids, just like you've all brought the love of gaming to more than 1 billion lives.
My DM's are open.
At Alpha School, motivation is everything.
I haven't been able to convince the 3 "not math/science" girls 👇to read Project Hail Mary - a sci-fi novel that celebrates problem solving, growth mindset, and science as the solution.
Maybe Ryan Gosling can. They've got tickets to the movie. We'll see if it leads them to the book.
Schools buy teacher materials from 5 different publishers. Hundreds of teachers then apply their individual training and experience to classroom delivery.
When a student fails a standardized test, how can anyone tell what went wrong?
The solution is vertical integration!
The mean AP Physics 1 score is 2.59.
Why? Because students can't identify the equations they need.
Getting a 5 is actually really easy. That is why we built this:
An adaptive software designed to help students identify the right equations in 10 seconds.
Just like how you know 7x8.
Kinda funny that the main criticism of Alpha has been that their results only exist because it’s an expensive private school.
At exactly the same time as Alpha academics are rolling out to thousands of kids in Texas via vouchers (GT School Anywhere and Texas Sports Academy)
Imagine the realization when you’re paying for what’s considered “elite” private school and still needing to pay for additional services to actually be “elite.”
You basically end up paying for a brand despite the subpar quality of the product.
@teachthemx3 The head of an elite private school told me that more than 50% of his students had after-school tutors. He wasn't embarrassed. He thought it was normal.
If half your customers need to pay a third party to make your product work, your product is broken.
Critics: "The Alpha model only works because it's a $50k+ private school."
Texas Sports Academy: "Hold our Gatorade."
Thousands of Texas homeschoolers are applying for ESA vouchers to access the exact same Alpha School academics. One student just jumped from a 6th to 11th-grade reading level. 🤯
Reminder: This is the LAST weekend to apply for your voucher.
We asked Texas Sports Academy students to describe their school:
- "This is the first year I've ever been happy after school"
- "Moved up from 6th grade to 11th grade reading"
- "2 homers and we've only played 4 games"
- "I just want to be at school all the time"
Texas Sports Academy students get 2 hours of AI-powered academics and 3 hours of elite sports training - all before the school day is over.
Hear from our students:
