Almost every problem anyone ever had or will have can be solved by applying delayed gratification.
Almost every success anyone has ever had can be attributed to thinking more steps ahead than others.
If you max these two principles, you win.
A little confused about American attitude towards energy in this AC debate. I genuinely don’t know the answer so wondering how power supply works in American homes, esp apartments.
If you have a 2 or more room apt you usually need more than 1 AC.
Assuming 2kw per AC that’s 4kw and if you cook on induction, use electricity to heat bathroom water, and then also run a powerful desktop rig or god forbid charge your car, I am curious about the power supply defaults in American domiciles.
Here apts top out at 5kw default and you can sometimes stretch it to 11kw single phase if you pay an arm and a leg. Houses are more forgiving and can usually use 3f so you get more out of the box (mine has 20kw).
It would surprise me if you default to 10kw+ given your houses are made of paper, generally.
(To be clear I run a total of 9 ACs so very pro AC and I would fight to the death if they came to get mine)
Never thought I would live to see the day but @ProtonMail’s search and autocomplete are now so much better than Gmail’s it’s not even the same universe.
It's official - Codex has been nerfed to the bone.
Not only does it spend 10x more tokens now, but it also streams tokens WAY slower than before. You are now forced to turn on fast mode to be productive, which in total gets your token spend up to 15x more than before.
As someone who lives in Portugal which already stops every single package you get from outside EU with no exceptions for a decade or more:
I can tell you how this will go
From now on if you receive a package from outside EU, it'll first go missing for weeks and nobody will know where it is, then you'll receive an email from your country's customs agency
They'll make you login to some extremely unusable and outdated web portal which breaks half the time and where you have to classify your shipment in one of 10,000 confusing category codes
Depending on the category code you'll pay a different tax rate, sometimes it's 5% sometimes it's 60%
Then you have to pay the customs duty in some archaic way that will also be broken half the time
And then you'll finally receive your package from outside EU after months
Experiencing this for a few times you'll realize you will never ever try to order or receive anything from outside EU ever because the ordeal is too painful and expensive
I get asked a lot here by people from US to test out new products (like the guy who made the Minimal Phone) and it's just literally impossible for me to receive it even for testing. I tried to classify it as samples for testing but you need to go through a bureaucratic process of insane lengths to get that through so I just gave up
Realistically all this does is make Europeans live even more in the stone ages, as now they can't use modern AI, nor get modern products from outside EU because it'll be too much hassle to order
Bro imagine working in germany to finance non working “migrants” but being unable to stay home without a pay cut if you just get food poisoning or your kid gets sick.
Germany's Chancellor Merz:
We can no longer accept the extraordinarily high levels of sick leave in our companies.
We are abolishing sick leave by telephone and introducing the requirement to submit a medical certificate from the very first day of illness.
We know this is a tough decision. But we can no longer afford this competitive disadvantage caused by prolonged absences from work.
@grok Analyze this opportunity from the following angles and give a 1/10 score. Finish with a total score for “good opportunity” all things considered.
Geo position - infra accessibility and connectivity to main veins of transport while being reasonably out of the way of massive traffic and pollution
Public service reliability like police, fire brigade, medical
Risk vs natural phenomena like forest fires, drought, flood, earthquakes
Upkeep cost estimation
Bureaucracy and bribery requirements and expectations
Crime exposure, especially to migrant hordes
QoL for family of 4: education, age of population, demographic trends, drug use and adolescent crime prevalence
Land quality: chance for growth of food or having small numbers of animals if applicable
Exposure to sun days for solar panels, chance of quality underground water for off grid water system
"we couldn't find any issues"
I used to be unable to spend my Codex limit weekly. Same workload.
Now I spent 36% of my weekly in less than 1 day? Ok sure.

I really feel like the Codex team should just come out and say "we reduced usage quotas by 5x, sorry, it had to end some day" and we'd be more okay with that than these pity resets.
