Sam Raimi and Eddie Brock/Venom fan. Spider-Man 3 Editor’s Cut is peak and Raimi did a great Venom. David Michelinie is Venom’s real creator and best writer.
A prerelease interview with @RCEverbeck who played Eddie Brock in Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man film:

Thanks to @KlonoaPrime for digging this up! Also suggest checking out these Twitter posts Mr. Everbeck did showing what his Eddie Brock would've been like:
It’s also quite reductive to suggest the 90s was unconcerned with Venom’s villainy parallel to his heroism, because that was definitely not the case. Carnage exists to compare and contrast with Venom, not to entirely replace him as a villain.
And, to piggyback off the video above, the debate over “villain Venom vs. anti-hero Venom” is a pointless distinction. Venom is a heroic villain, and a villainous hero. He’s a complex character with bizzare ethics, and he’s always been that way, even in his earliest appearances.
Editorial changing hands before the start of Maximum Carnage resulted in his creator having less involvement in his comics. However, Venom was his brainchild for years, even up to Lethal Protector.
Some people, like OP here, seem to view Venom’s heroism as if it were a mandate imposed on the character by editors, when it wasn’t. The label of “anti-hero” is more or less what Venom’s creator intended from the very start.🧵
At the end of the day Villain/Anti-Hero Venom is still a Delusional Nutjob who believes he’s the Victim and thinks he’s doing good (obviously that “Good” varies)
But people don’t want the Obsessive Stalker Venom, they want Big Monster Venom
@bornposting Michelinie initially planned to kill off Eddie, but editorial prevented his death as he was too popular, so Michelinie made him an antihero, but it wasn’t out of nowhere; Venom previously showed antiheroic traits, and Michelinie made Carnage to highlight Venom’s twisted morality.
I think people who say “Venom should’ve stayed a Spider-Man villain” don’t really understand that Anti-Hero Venom and Villain Venom are kinda still the same character.
Anti-Hero Venom is just Villain Venom when he isn’t messing with Spider-Man
Happy Birthday to Topher Grace 🎉
Topher Grace, more widely known for his role as ‘Eric Forman’ in beloved sitcom ‘That ‘70s Show,’ joined the Spider-Man franchise in the form of ‘Eddie Brock’, also known as the sinister symbiote monster ‘Venom’. His take on the character is fun, and fits very well within in the world Raimi created in his Spider-Man trilogy. He is 48-years-old today!
Remember when Activision didn’t include the Variety Map Pack on launch in the Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare remaster?
And then you had to pay for it, meaning nobody played those maps.
I can find people playing the DLC maps on the original Call of Duty 4 but never the remaster.
‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ and ‘Black Ops 2’ ports for PS4 and PS5 have released 🎮
• Each game costs $40
• PS4 & PS5 versions
• No updates to the core games
• DLC not included
• Cross-play between PS4 & PS5 not supported
@caredscared_ Are you watching the theatrical cut or Assembly Cut/Special Edition? Avoid the theatrical cut at all costs.
From what I recall reading, the monastery was to be on a planet made of wood; the idea was apparently scrapped/rejected because a wooden planet in space wasn’t logical.
@codman4372wx_ I’m only a bit into it, but I think it’s fine/decent so far. There’s an odd quirk with crouch aiming. I’m playing on the hardest difficulty, 007 Classic, which removes regenerating health so you rely on body armor, as I was concerned about it being too easy on lower difficulties.
I’ve been playing the Activision 007 James Bond games, and my biggest frustration is lack of full subtitle support. Some dialogue is so muffled and often playing concurrently with gunfire, music, or the environment, you can barely make out what’s being said, or not even at all.
@speebus1 I actually genuinely enjoy the SM3 church scene. I think it got the gist of the 616 version where Eddie deflected blame for his mistakes and failures, framing himself as a victim; he very much twists his Catholicism to fit his delusional victimhood due to insecurity and egotism.
I think it’s a bit bizarre how some say they want a “real comic-accurate Venom” but defend the omission of Eddie’s Catholic faith in TAS and Spectacular by saying “it’s a kid’s superhero cartoon,” while the X-Men 90s show managed to touch upon Nightcrawler’s Catholic faith. 1/2
From a Venom fan POV:
The first arc with Venom’s origin and villainy is good, but I wish they kept Eddie’s Catholicism; the lack of it only hurts.
The second arc stumbles, even with the heel-face turn; why would Venom even work with Carnage to help Dormammu in the first place?
@speebus1 Please refer to my second tweet I made here. I would’ve been fine if they had to tone down Eddie’s Catholic faith to fit the younger audiences of a Saturday morning cartoon to avoid mentions of suicide or killing, as long as they acknowledged it and incorporated it in his origin.
I don’t even think TAS or Spectacular needed to do the whole “Eddie asks for forgiveness for contemplating suicide” like 616 or “Eddie asks God to kill Peter” like SM3, but at least acknowledging Eddie’s Catholicism in some way for the origin would be fine even if toned down. 2/2
@DetectiveSpade_ The Editor’s Cut of SM3 fixes the theatrical's story and pacing issues by actually reverting to an earlier version of the film closer to the original script; it's much better.
Plus, despite his short screentime in the final film, it's got my favorite (and best) Venom adaptation!
@MarvelAAge I would’ve been fine if they had to tone down Eddie’s Catholicism to fit the sensibilities of the younger audience; I don’t think TAS (or Spectacular) needed to go as hardcore on Eddie’s Catholicism like the original 616 version or SM3 did, but just acknowledgment would be nice.
