Not always from ego, sometimes from pressure, pride, or simply being too arrogant to admit the blueprint still isn’t fully there yet… or that nobody in the room truly has the answer right now.
And when nobody slows down long enough to properly develop the artist, talent starts carrying the weight that structure was supposed to ❤️🤞🏾
In film, everybody has a role. There are scripts, rehearsals, coaches, writers, directors & real development. If something isn’t working, they bring in the right people to improve the PRODUCT.
In hip hop music, artists are often signed off potential and expected to “figure it out” in real time. Sometimes the artist is lost, management is learning on the fly, and labels or production company become so focused on proving their vision works that outside collaboration or ideas get overlooked.
One thing I’m learning from the film industry is the difference between a profession and a hustle.
I understand film & television budgets are much bigger than music budgets, which naturally creates more structure, staffing & development.
But what stands out to me most is the accountability…
Shoutout to my mama for giving me life… and the perspective to survive it. For teaching me that love ain’t always loud sometimes it look like sacrifice, patience, protection, and showing up even when you running on empty.
“MOMMA LOVES ME” out now exclusively on the SYMBA app.
Happy Mother’s Day to the women that held families together through pure faith and resilience. We don’t say thank you enough.
Download the SYMBA app in the App Store or click the link in my bio to hear the song first.
Im starting to learn a lot of upcoming artists dont fail because they lack talent. they fail because they lack perspective, preparation and industry etiquette…
Everybody wants the lifestyle, the rooms, the attention, the “put me on” moment, but very few are emotionally equipped for what comes with watching someone else shine before them.
If you’re invited into spaces you’ve never been in before, the first thing should be gratitude and observation… not entitlement and comparison
This game notices who’s prepared, who can deliver under pressure, who can read the room, and who can handle not being the center of attention without falling apart. A lot of people don’t actually want the job… they want the validation.
And when reality doesn’t match the fantasy, resentment starts showing up.
That’s why a lot of artists stop reaching back. Not because they don’t want to help, but because everybody isn’t built to handle proximity to opportunity .. that’s the unfortunate reality 🤷🏽♂️
