On June 1, the Keir Starmer-led UK government released a second batch of documents — more than 1,500 files — linked to Peter Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador. While British media focus on Mandelson’s influence in government and his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, his ties to Israel and Palantir are receiving less attention. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused US billionaire Elon Musk of ‘whipping up division’ over handcuffed student’s death.
The murder of student Henry Nowak last year has dominated headlines in Britain since his Sikh killer was sentenced on Monday (June 1), and footage of officers ignoring the pleas of a dying, innocent man has sparked a political storm about how police treat different ethnicities.
In the attack last December, Nowak’s killer Vickrum Digwa, 23, lied to police saying that Nowak had racially abused and assaulted him during a brief altercation in the street.
In police bodycam footage, he is seen lying on the ground saying, “I’ve been stabbed” and “I can’t breathe” as he’s being handcuffed, while an officer responds, “I don’t think you have, mate.”
Nowak’s family called his treatment by police “inhumane and degrading” but said after the sentencing that his death should not be “used to create further division, hatred or tension.”
A Serbian UN peacekeeper in Lebanon died on Thursday from wounds sustained when mortar shells hit his position near Marjayoun in southeastern Lebanon late the previous night, the seventh peacekeeper killed in the country since March.
The UN said two other peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were wounded in the incident, one from El Salvador and the other from Spain.
The soldier killed was Sergeant Milovan Jovanovic of Serbia’s 27th Mechanized Battalion, who would have turned 37 on Saturday. He was married, with a son and a daughter, and was on his first peacekeeping deployment.
A North Carolina high school valedictorian was silenced by a school administrator after she began speaking about Palestine, global conflicts, and ICE raids during her commencement address.
Leen Hijaz says her diploma was withheld following the incident, though the school district has not confirmed that claim.
“School administrators intervened in order to maintain the integrity and focus of the program in real time. This action was not about limiting a student’s voice, but about ensuring that a school-sponsored event remained consistent with its intended purpose,” the school said.
“Whether one agrees with Leen Hijaz’s views or not, interrupting a valedictorian for calling attention to humanitarian crises and the plight of immigrant families sends a troubling message that certain perspectives are unwelcome in public discourse,” the Council on American-Islamic Relations said in a statement.
“We commend Leen Hijaz for demonstrating the moral courage to speak out on behalf of people whose voices are too often ignored,” the statement added
President Donald Trump has slammed a vote in the US House seeking to order the withdrawal of American troops from the US-Israel war on Iran, suggesting the “unpatriotic” move disrupted negotiations with Tehran.
The largely symbolic vote came “right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump said on Thursday in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“Who would do such an unpatriotic thing. They know where the negotiations stand.”
In a notable rebuke of Trump, four members of his majority Republicans joined Democrats on Wednesday in backing the measure, which passed 215-208 and now heads to the Senate.
The measure, which will ultimately face a presidential veto, marked the first time the Republican-controlled House approved a measure seeking to force Trump to wind down military operations against Tehran since the war began three months ago.

US Representative Rashida Tlaib forced a vote Thursday on a War Powers Resolution aimed at curbing the Trump administration’s involvement in Lebanon, where Israel has repeatedly been accused of committing war crimes using US-supplied munitions.
The resolution—which would have required the withdrawal of US troops from Lebanon within seven days—failed by a vote of 91–324 after Democratic leaders declined to support it
