Calvin nails us to the wall…
“For (such is our innate pride) we always seem to ourselves just, and upright, and wise, and holy, until we are convinced, by clear evidence, of our injustice, vileness, folly, and impurity. Convinced, however, we are not, if we look to ourselves only, and not to the Lord also — He being the only standard by the application of which this conviction can be produced. For, since we are all naturally prone to hypocrisy, any empty semblance of righteousness is quite enough to satisfy us instead of righteousness itself.”

WHY ARE WE PAYING MORE FOR GAS NOW THAN WHEN OIL WAS THE SAME UNDER BIDEN?
It's complicated. Luckily you have me to explain it to you!
How are we paying more at the pump today than we did under Biden, when a barrel of oil costs about the same?
Because the oil is only part of what you're buying. And the other part quietly blew up.
Here's the whole thing in plain English.
A barrel of oil makes 42 gallons. Right now oil runs about $93 a barrel, so the actual crude in your gallon is only around $2.20. The rest of what you pay, another two bucks and change, is everything else. Refining it. Trucking it. Taxes. And the station's cut.
Back in 2022, Biden's expensive-oil year, a barrel cost about the same, right around $95. But gas averaged $3.95 a gallon. Today, at the same oil price, we're paying $4.49. That's about 54 cents more for the exact same barrel.
So where did that extra 54 cents go? Almost none of it is the oil.
About 26 cents is plain old inflation. Everything it takes to make and move gas costs more now, the workers, the trucks, the power to run a refinery. Four years of rising prices baked into every gallon.
About 15 cents is refineries, or the lack of them. We've shut a bunch down and built almost none, so the ones still standing charge more to turn crude into gas. Less competition, bigger markup.
A few cents is state gas taxes creeping up.
And maybe a dime is fatter margins, the part where you can argue somebody along the way is padding the bill.
Now the honest part, because I'm not going to lie to you. Today's oil is pricey on its own too, close to $100, partly the war premium from the Iran fight. So today's sticker is expensive crude plus four years of inflation stacked on top.
But here's what should tick you off. Even when oil calms back down, that 54 cents isn't coming out of your tank. Inflation doesn't reverse, and the refineries aren't coming back. That part is permanent.
That's the hidden tax nobody voted for, and it's riding in your gas tank every single day!
Your Bible is two covenant canons, not one flat book. Genesis 1–3: the vassal kingdom created, Adam's treason, the promise of the Second Adam (Gen 3:15).
The Old Covenant canon is the toy fulfillment of the Abrahamic kingdom promise — Israel as the scale model, the covenant community under the old covenant guardian until it grew to maturity. The New Covenant canon is the eschatological fulfillment in Christ — the real palace.
So the apostles handle the old canon the way a father handles old toys: showing them to his son to explain the palace. Obsolete as covenant document (Heb 8:13), yet God-breathed and profitable (2 Tim 3:16).
The continuity is the child now grown — the Abrahamic covenant community, the one olive tree (Rom 11). We stand under the imperatives of the second canon, no longer under the guardian (Gal 3:25).

I have been thinking about the command for husbands to love their wives “as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” (Eph 5:25) and how radical it is and counter to the common view of love as sentimentality.
This love is sacrificial.
It means dying to selfishness, pride, entitlement, and the desire to have our own way. Paul is telling husbands that marital love can sometimes feel agonizing - not because a wife is a burden or because love itself is torture - but because dying to self is painful. This is not what we typically hear preached at weddings, but I think it would be helpful if we did!
Marriage is a picture of Christ and the church, and in a real sense it is call to spiritual warfare. It exposes our impatience, selfishness, fear, and pride. It reveals the places where we still resist the way of the cross and need mercy and grace.
Marriage reveals where we are desperate for more of Jesus and then gives us daily opportunities to receive His grace and become more like him.
Husbands, may the Lord help us!
Highest gas prices (by far) of the 50 states.
Highest utility rates of the 50 states.
Highest housing costs of the 50 states.
Highest taxes in the country.
Losing Fortune 500 businesses faster than any other state.
More people moving out of state to find cheaper costs of living than any other state.
Gavin is delusional.
The New Testament’s ministry architecture is painfully simple: no apostles, no prophets, and evangelists who remain accountable to their senders. Once the extraordinary offices cease, every legitimate ministry collapses back into the local church. The Bible doesn’t recognize platform speakers who drift from conference to conference selling books without being under the discipline of a real congregation. Ministry without a church isn’t ministry — it’s religious entrepreneurship.

Dick Allen breaks up Nolan Ryan's no hit bid with two outs in the ninth inning while playing for the White Sox on August 7, 1974.
Allen had already won AL MVP in 1972, but at bats like that show why even a flamethrower like Ryan, who'd finish with an all time record 5,714 strikeouts, treated every trip through the order against him like a threat.
@BringePeter Insist on? How about -
“And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified”
If Canada were a U.S. state, it would rank dead last in per capita GDP.
Canada: $55,760, per IMF data.
Mississippi, the lowest state: $55,877
It is a pathetic little country that murders its own citizens because it cannot provide them basic healthcare, does not meet its NATO responsibilities and uses the U.S. defense budget to subsidize its massive welfare state.
September 26, 2008: Paul Newman passed away from lung cancer at 83, leaving his wife Joanne Woodward devastated after 50 years of marriage. She couldn't bear to sell his 1963 Porsche, leaving it untouched in the garage.
In 2018, ten years later, she finally opened it.
Behind the sun visor, a yellowed note read:
"My darling Joanne, if you're reading this, I'm gone. I've hidden notes all over our life. Keep looking, keep finding me. I never left. I'm in every corner of our love. Forever yours, P." Since then, Joanne has discovered 47 hidden notes—in books, coat pockets, and photo frames. Sixteen years after his passing, she's still finding him, a gentle reminder that love never truly dies.

Most gracious and merciful Father, hear our prayers for healing and deliverance from the cancer that is assailing Art’s wife. Relieve her pain and make her whole again. And above all give her the assurance of your presence and love in and through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
@twrjack Please retweet & pray for my wife of 25 years. She’s in the hospital for over 2 weeks with stage 4. Pray the Lord blesses the doctors with wisdom and He heals my wife from cancer and excruciating pain. Pray we stay close to the Lord. We’re trusting for a healing. In Jesus’s name!
