We want to create a fair and equitable world, where all young people are afforded the same opportunities, regardless of their social background.
We are proud to be the charity partner of The Inspiring Women in Property Awards 2024 @PropertyWeek
100% agree, and exacerbated by socio economic backgrounds. This is why we work with young people from rural and coastal areas - enabling them to access work experience, employability skills and professional networks. #socialmobility
The research takes a closer look at young people's perceptions of the opportunities they can access locally.
In addition to differences between regions, we also found differences in perceptions of local opportunities for training and jobs between urban and rural areas.
" students from lower socioeconomic status backgrounds (SES) were less willing to travel for university, which was linked to the financial risks and emotional costs associated with attending distant universities." James Robson, University of Oxford https://t.co/wLW1tU9Ml3
This is such an eloquent account of trying to change who you are just to fit in with the dominant culture.
Universities and workplaces need to become more diverse and value everyone, whatever their background. #socialmobility

Looking forward to tomorrow's Equity in Education book launch in London hosted by the brilliant @SocialMobilityF. Equity is about doing more for pupils who have faced extra barriers to learning, and working with them not doing things to them. Must move away from deficit approach!
NEW: Social mobility continues to fall – and moving up is harder if you grow up in the North or Midlands.

“It may be harder now than at any point in over half a century to move up"
UK social mobility is at its worst in over 50 years according to @TheIFS, reports @RJPartington for @guardian
What part, if any, does private education play in social immobility?
https://t.co/eQBn0VMVZj
🚨 Only 7% of the UK population are educated privately, but nearly 40% of those in top jobs went to a private school.
Our research shows how privately educated pupils are heavily overrepresented in top positions in the most competitive sectors ⤵️

Interesting find @LSEImpactBlog showing that universities outside of the Russell Group institutions drive social mobility more.
As shown, 40% of disadvantaged graduates from Russell Group universities become top earners. However, 54% of top earners were privately educated!
🗃️From the archive: Despite the focus on Russell Group institutions as drivers of social mobility, it is actually universities outside this group that are contributing most strongly to social mobility

The Talent Tap's mission is to deliver long-term social impact by providing young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds with life changing work experience opportunities. We all need to play a part in this to shape tomorrow...
@campbellclaret As a social mobility charity, with a mission to overcome the barriers of socio-economics, we welcome Starmer's move to raise the profile of oracy and their commitment to a broader curriculum.
We all need to break down these barriers, to shape tomorrow.
@Keir_Starmer@UKLabour
As a social mobility charity, we welcome Starmer's pledge to improve the access that our young people have to top jobs.
Raising the profile of oracy is a welcome move!
