Catalysing transformational change in India with a focus on sustainable development through innovation, since 1892. Official handle of the Tata Trusts.
We know our mothers through the little things they do. The stories they tell, the habits they ingrain, the way they call our names, and the moments that quietly become a part of who we are.
But what happens when those little things begin to change? When something familiar starts to feel just a little different?
"Vajood Rahe Maujood" explores the beautiful bond between a mother and her son, that finds new meaning in the moments we often take for granted.
Discover their story and the signs to watch out for. Because sometimes, understanding begins with noticing.

Growing older can change a person’s world. The care around them must evolve too.
That care begins with seeing the whole person, their stories, habits, wisdom and contributions that continue to shape families and communities.
The Tata Trusts work to empower communities and address critical gaps, helping build an empathetic ecosystem where older persons can access the care they need, stay connected to their communities and continue to live with dignity, purpose and belonging.
Because growing older should never mean becoming less seen, less heard or less valued.

Memory loss is often the first thing associated with dementia. But for ‘Vajood Rahe Maujood’, the creative opportunity lay in looking beyond what is forgotten to what can gradually feel lost, a person’s sense of self. As the creative director of the film reflects, memory loss would have been the easier story to tell, but identity loss held the ache of watching someone slip away while they're still right there. It's a feeling the film captures in its most emotional moment, when the son says, "main apni maa ko kho raha hoon."
The conversation with Storyboard18 explores how this shift towards identity shaped the film and why telling a story like this meant working closely with voices who understand dementia beyond the screen, including insights from the Dementia India Alliance and clinical experts, brought in to make sure the film's portrayal stayed honest to what families actually go through. At its heart, the film is an invitation to have a difficult conversation many families put off for far too long.

The Tata Trusts today, as majority shareholders with a 66% stake in Tata Sons Private Limited (TSPL), outlined a strategic reorganisation plan for the Company which, when given effect to, would ensure that the reorganised entity would neither be a ‘Non-Banking Financial Company’ (NBFC) nor a ‘Core Investment Company’ (CIC). The proposed reorganisation of TSPL essentially entails the merger of ‘Tata Electronics Systems Solutions Private Limited’ (TESS) and ‘Tata Consulting Engineers’ (TCE) with TSPL.

Nation-building was always at the heart of what Ratan Tata set out to do, right from the start. For him, business was never separate from public good—it was always meant to work hand in hand with it.
This belief shaped how he saw progress, building schools, hospitals and livelihoods alongside businesses—institutions that would last and strengthen the country. That same philosophy runs through everything the Tata Trusts do today, showing up in every community they empower.

A question repeated once is fine to miss. The same question asked three or four times is when a harmless habit starts needing more than just curiosity.
Repeating the same questions is one of the most common early signs of Alzheimer's disease, the most recognised form of dementia that affects short-term memory. Someone can recall a childhood story in detail yet lose an entire conversation ten minutes ago. It differs from forgetfulness in the ordinary sense, as it only occurs when trying to retain recent information and not long-term memory.
This is only one of many early signs of Alzheimer’s disease, which can also include difficulty completing familiar tasks or recalling specific words. There are several types of dementia, each showing up differently in memory, thinking and behaviour. Recognising symptoms is an important step toward assessment, testing and the right care.

The early signs are often easy to dismiss. There is no clear moment when a family realises that something has changed, because the signs emerge gradually and can seem insignificant at first.
These subtle changes are how dementia first surfaces, through small, easily overlooked signs such as time disorientation and short-term memory lapses. Recognising it early makes a meaningful difference in seeking support and understanding how the condition can be managed.

On her birth anniversary, the Tata Trusts remember Lady Navajbai Tata, whose vision and leadership helped create new possibilities for communities, especially women.
As Chairperson, she brought a strong belief in dignity, independence and opportunity, helping shape a philanthropic approach that recognised social progress as inseparable from the ability to live with dignity and independence.
Her work across women’s livelihoods, healthcare, and community welfare were essential in creating lasting pathways to opportunity. The Tata Trusts continue to carry this belief forward, supporting initiatives that enable individuals and communities to build brighter futures.

House keys in the fridge?
We might laugh about it and move on. But when moments like these begin happening more often, they may be more than an occasional lapse in memory.
Dementia affects more than memory. It can influence how a person communicates, makes decisions, and manages everyday life. Recognising these changes can help families understand what is happening and seek support early.
Through Vajood Rahe Maujood, the Tata Trusts invite you to look beyond the laughter and listen to what these little moments may be telling us. To know more, visit: https://t.co/2KnzcsREo8

The Articles of Association (AoA) of Tata Sons do not leave any decision of the Board to a mere head count of Directors. They provide that no decision can be taken unless it has the affirmative support of at least a majority of the Directors nominated by the Tata Trusts, who hold approximately 66% of the Company.
This is a separate condition under the AoA.

This week's Founding Word reflects on philanthropy, and the responsibility it places on those who practise it.
JRD Tata believed that the true measure of an institution was not the wealth it created, but the value it returned to the nation that enabled its success.
For over five decades, he shaped a vision of enterprise rooted in national purpose. He ensured that growth found expression in institutions that would endure, through hospitals that cared, research centres that advanced knowledge, and educational institutions that shaped generations.
The Tata Trusts carry that same responsibility forward, treating service to the country not as a byproduct of success, but as its actual measure.

This week's Founding Word looks at Lady Meherbai Tata's conviction about women and the key role they could play in shaping a nation's progress.
Before women were welcomed to speak on the world stage, she was already standing on it, arguing India's case in college halls in Michigan and at international councils in Europe, because she refused to let the country's voice be only half its own. Closer to home, she helped build the institutions India's women's movement would stand on, co-founding the Bombay Presidency Women's Council and later the National Council of Women in India, and lending her name and her persistence to the Sarda Act until it became law in 1929, to end child marriage.
The Tata Trusts continue to be guided by Lady Meherbai's vision on enhancing agency for women in India.

The Tata Trusts, in partnership with the District Administration of Gadchiroli and Mobile Creches, launched an initiative to promote the growth and development of young children with a strong focus on nutrition through the inauguration of the first community-based crèche in Etapalli on 4 September 2026, under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Maharashtra.
The crèches will serve as hubs of integrated early childhood development for children below three years of age, with focus on age-appropriate nutrition, health, and overall development by making quality childcare services accessible to families in this remote and forested district predominantly inhabited by tribal people. Each creche will connect children to Anganwadi Centres for accessing the services for children. Safe and reliable childcare offers mothers greater flexibility to participate in livelihood opportunities and fulfil other responsibilities, including self-care.
The Tata Trusts in collaboration with District Administration of Gadchiroli aim to create stronger foundations for children and greater opportunities for mothers, recognising that a child’s development and a mother’s time for work are deeply connected.

For a child, literacy is more than just reading and writing. It builds the ability to think, question and take on the world with confidence.
That ability begins with Foundational Literacy and Numeracy, by learning to read with understanding and reason with numbers, through language, stories and play suitable for young minds to learn. This gives children a whole new world to discover.
The Tata Trusts support schools and educators to strengthen this early learning across communities, so that a child's first steps create the foundation for every step that follows.
This World Literacy Day, it's worth recognising that FLN strengthens a child's learning journey.

This week's Founding Word looks at curiosity, and JRD Tata's belief that education is always more about how much someone is encouraged to ask the right questions.
When Homi J. Bhabha wrote to him in 1945 proposing an institute for pure research, with no promise of immediate practical use, JRD backed the idea. That decision led to the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, which would go on to become the cradle of India's atomic energy programme, not because it set out to build one, but because it gave curiosity the room to lead.
The Tata Trusts carry that belief forward, through institutions like NIAS and platforms like Khan Academy India, built on the conviction that the right question is worth more than the right answer.
