Mischa Bredewold just misses out on 4th consecutive victory in Grand Prix Plouay

Mischa Bredewold came agonisingly close to pulling off a remarkable feat in the GP Plouay. The record holder found herself isolated too early in the race, but still appeared to be on her way to victory with a long sprint in the finale. Only a strong Elisa Balsamo managed to come past her, meaning Bredewold and Team SD Worx-Protime had to settle for second place. “Disappointment prevails at the moment. It wasn’t our race from the start, but we still came close to a historic fourth consecutive victory with Mischa,” said team director Christian Kos.

Christian Kos: “If we’re honest, the race did not unfold the way we had hoped. We lost Lisa Van Belle, Femke Gerritse and Nienke Vinke earlier than expected. In addition, Mikayla Harvey literally crashed out of the race. On the other hand, Elena Cecchini and Mischa Bredewold rode very strongly. At a certain point, Mischa became isolated, which meant she had to do too much work on her own.”

“Mischa rode a very strong race. She helped take the initiative in chasing down a late breakaway and still looked set to take the victory in the sprint. She executed her sprint the way she wanted to, although she may have started just a little too early. Only an exceptionally strong Elisa Balsamo was able to pass her thanks to a particularly powerful sprint. Naturally, disappointment is the main feeling at the moment and we are frustrated. But Mischa came very close to a fourth consecutive victory and delivered an excellent performance.”

Eline Jansen to strengthen Team SD Worx – Protime

Team SD Worx – Protime has strengthened its roster for the coming seasons with the signing of Eline Jansen. The 24-year-old Dutch rider has been on the team’s radar for quite some time. Racing for VolkerWessels, she has developed well over the past few years and made a strong impression. “Eline still has enormous potential. There are opportunities for her especially in hilly terrain. I also expect that she can develop into a general classification rider in the smaller stage races,” says sports manager Danny Stam.

Lorena Wiebes concludes the @TourofBritain with four stage wins and second place in the general classification

A masterclass by Team SD Worx-Protime and Lorena Wiebes in the Tour of Britain. The Dutch rider claimed no fewer than four of the five stage victories thanks to outstanding teamwork and also secured second place in the general classification. The sprint star also took home the points jersey. “This was a successful Tour of Britain,” said a satisfied sports director Christian Kos.

Christian Kos: “This stage unfolded exactly as we had planned. The team was fully up to the task. There was a clear division of roles and it was executed superbly. There were two steep climbs, with the last one ending thirty kilometres from the finish. We knew it was crucial to survive those climbs if we wanted to sprint. On the first QOM, Lorena was able to stay with the climbers, which was very good and gave us confidence.”

“Between the two climbs, the others were also able to rejoin. Once those hills were behind us, the gap was two minutes. The teamwork within our squad was superb and we made the catch with one and a half kilometres to go. With Lorena, you know you have the trump card for a stage win in your hands. Once again, she finished it off brilliantly. Along with a very nice second place in the general classification. This was a hugely successful Tour of Britain,” Kos concluded.

Mixed day at the office in Tour of Britain. A DNF after Steffi Häberlin crashed out of the race. But strong performances by @mischabredewold and @lorenawiebes finishing 7th & 10th on today’s tough stage. Sports director Christian Kos: “Steffi Häberlin crashed early in the race, landing on her head. Her helmet and bike were damaged, so out of caution, we decided not to let her restart.”

The first 60 kilometres were tough, with a lot of hills, but we managed to get through them quite well. Mischa Bredewold, Lorena Wiebes and Femke Gerritse were looking good. Julia Kopecky got caught behind a crash and missed this group at first but managed to make the connection later on.”

“So with four riders, we headed into the final hilly section. We tried to position Mischa and Lorena as well as possible. They were slightly hindered when turning onto the climb, so they had to make up some ground, while Kim had already accelerated.”

“In the end, Mischa finished in a beautiful 7th place and Lorena put in a strong ride to take 10th.”

Lorena is now 3rd in the GC at 35” of the brand new leader & stage winner Kim Le Court. Congrats Kim!

Lotte Kopecky won’t start stage 3 of Tour of Britain

Unfortunately @lottekopecky was not feeling well this morning. In consultation with the medical staff it has been decided she will not start today in the 3rd stage of @TourofBritain. We wish Lotte a speedy recovery. 🍀

“I got a good lead-out. It may have come a little too early, but we had no other choice because there was quite a strong headwind. In the final metres, I was able to find my own way. I launched my sprint a bit earlier than planned because I was afraid of getting boxed in. Even so, I was able to sprint and I’m happy that I could finish off the work of my teammates. It’s also great that Steffi Häberlin will be wearing the Queen of the Mountains jersey tomorrow. Tomorrow brings the first real day for the general classification. After that, we’ll see where we stand,” said Lorena Wiebes.
