I have compiled, as a reminder to myself, the fullest and healthiest list of appropriate responses upon encountering provocations and controversies on social media. Here it is:
@CalumAM hi Calum. I can't remember if I blessed you at such times before with my Beatles compilation analogy for party leadership elections, but it seems to be relevant again, so here it is (again, possibly). Best wishes, Iain
@baroquebird Pencils always work.
Absolutely no history of vote fraud involving changing people's pencil-written votes.
Very recent history, last few years (Brexit referendum first time, perhaps?), of conspiracy theories around the idea and people telling people to use pens.
@AndyAitcheson I'm guessing you're probably not talking about When Saturday Comes, the half-decent football magazine, which is my WSC; I'm also guessing I'm better off not knowing the WSC you /are/ actually talking about.
@baroquebird you can understand it better, it's clearer, if you do it the other way around - AIWFCIY to the tune of OIRDC. That makes it clear that the first six lines of AIWFCIY do work to the 878777 metre of OIRDC, but then there are still two lines to go - one 5 syllables and one 8.
@dcsandbrook@TheRestHistory At every line in praise of Nelson I thought of Fanny, his wife, who he treated so appallingly (as well recounted by yourselves). A not wholly admirable admiral. I wonder what Nelson's devoted personal chaplain made of his abandonment of Fanny and flagrant adultery with Emma?

@MetCC someone is fraudulently giving our address as their address, causing us to have unwanted and unnecessary visits from emergency services. What should we report this to the police as? Fraud? Identity theft?
@baroquebird I was most impressed by your front row position, you high roller you. Is that in Germany? The first proper, staged opera I ever saw was basically by chance, in Zurich in 2008. I'll WA you a snip of my diary entry...
