They'd file for adverse possession and if they could show they were using the land, they'd win. Sometimes they didn't have to wait 10 years but I don't remember the reasoning in those cases.

@seonghwaheart4 @MaryAlmighty220 @DrAlmarielao In Texas, if the fence isn't put back in the correct spot after 10 years the neighbor can legally claim the land. I worked for a survey company and we did a lot of property boundaries because of this.
