The Pro Football Hall of Fame has made significant changes to the way it selects its annual classes, one year after Bill Belichick was snubbed in his first year of eligibility:

Among the biggest changes:

• Selection committee reduced from 50 members to 28.

• Modern-Era Players and Seniors will no longer be separate categories. All eligible players will now be considered in one pool after the mandatory five-year retirement period.

• The annual finalist group changes from 15 Modern-Era Players, 3 Seniors, 1 Coach and 1 Contributor to 13 Players, 1 Coach and 1 Contributor.

• The previous limit of three Seniors on the final ballot has been eliminated.

• Candidates who reach the final seven will no longer automatically carry over as finalists the following year.

• Contributor eligibility will now consider a candidate’s entire football résumé, including playing, coaching and other contributions.

This is a substantial overhaul of the Hall’s selection process.
