I was trying to get help with my hacked Facebook account. Itâs all about supporting parents raising kids with disabilities.
Iâve never seen or been required to answer political affiliation questions in order to contact support.
Does this seem weird to anyone else?
Nonverbal does not mean less.
It does not mean unaware.
And it does not mean absent.
Too often, people confuse speech with intelligence.
That assumption causes real harm.
Communication looks different for different people.
Words are only one option.
Every person thinks.
Every person feels.
Every person deserves respect.
ALWAYS PRESUME COMPETENCE.

Dear Autism Parents,
You donât need all the answers to be a good parent.
Showing up matters.
Listening matters.
Fighting for your kid matters.
Perfect isnât the goal.
Connection is.
If you needed this reminder today, youâre not alone.
#autism#parenting#theautismdad
People say these things like theyâre harmless.
Theyâre not.
They dismiss lived experience.
They minimize real support needs.
They shut down honest conversations.
Autism doesnât have a look.
Advocating isnât overreacting.
And no, not everyone is a little bit autistic.
Words matter.
So does listening.

Sometimes declining an invite isnât about not wanting to go. Itâs about knowing the cost.
Even fun events can overwhelm an autistic persons nervous system. And the recovery afterward can take hours or days and itâs not fun for anyone.
Please continue to invite us, even when you know we might not be able to attend. It helps us feel connected and remembered. â€ïžđ«¶

Some kids will eat anything when theyâre hungry.
Many autistic kids wonât.
Sensory issues with food are real.
They are intense.
They can override hunger.
This isnât picky eating.
It isnât defiance.
It isnât bad parenting.
Our kids will skip meals and go hungry before eating something that feels unsafe to their bodies.
If you havenât lived this, listen more than you talk.
And please stop judging families who are just trying to keep their kids fed.
#autism #parenting #theautismdad
People see a moment.
They think they understand the whole story.
They donât see the sleepless nights.
The meltdowns.
The school battles.
The constant stress and fear.
Autism parenting is heavy.
Every single day.
If you canât be supportive, kind, or helpful,
please donât add to the load.
Be kind.
Or be quiet.
#autism #parenting #theautismdad
Autistic kids are not failed versions of neurotypical kids.
Theyâre developing on their own timeline.
With their own strengths.
And their own challenges.
The problem isnât our kids.
Itâs the expectation that everyone should grow the same way.
If youâre raising an autistic child and feeling pressure to compare, pause.
Different does not mean less.
Youâre doing better than you think.
#autism #parenting #theautismdad
Please stop telling autism parents to âjust doâ things.
Just be consistent.
Just take the screen away.
Just push them harder.
Just ignore it.
If it were that simple, we would have done it already.
Autism parenting is layered.
Itâs situational.
Itâs adaptive.
Itâs exhausting.
Unsolicited advice doesnât help.
Listening does.
If youâre not living this life, pause before judging it.
#autism #parenting #theautismdad
You donât need permission to parent your autistic kid the way they need. You know your kid best.
Normal is not a standard.
Itâs a strategy.
If it works for your family.
If your kid is regulated.
If everyone is safe.
That counts.
Anyone judging from the outside isnât living your life.
Keep doing what works.
#autism #parenting #theautismdad
Screen time isnât the enemy for many autistic kids.
For some, screens are tools.
They help with communication.
They support learning.
They help kids regulate emotions.
They make the world feel safer and more predictable.
Judging parents without knowing the why helps no one.
You parent your kids.
Weâll parent ours.
