A little bit more clarity from Wemby’s camp; It sounds like a big part of this contract decision was about game management. By opting out of the milestones that would scale up the contract (I.e. games played) it elimates pressure to play hurt.

The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks selected him in the 1st round of the NPB Draft last year and he has the option of signing with either team.

Sasaki would’ve needed to go in the first 2 rounds for the slot value to exceed to what he can get in Japan, as an NPB 1st rounder is roughly worth a 3rd or 4th round pick in MLB.
