Multiple members of Congress, or their spouses, have achieved better returns on stock investments than Warren Buffett, the most renowned stock investor of all time.
Anyone in a federally elected or appointed position of authority should not be allowed to invest in individual stocks. Investing in index or mutual funds is fine. Is this fair to them? No—but they volunteered to be public servants, and with that comes accountability and sacrifice.
The amount of politicians blatantly engaging in what would be considered insider trading for anyone else is outrageous. The goal of a politician should be to serve the people—not to amass $100 million while in office, then retire with a lucrative book deal.
Earlier this year I testified against gov. overreach in the form of an assault weapons ban in the Colorado state capital in Denver, on a bill we successfully killed.
