To understand Ukraine's plight, watch Winter on Fire.
One of the most pervasive elements of Russian war propaganda is that Ukrainians in the Donbas organically rebelled in 2014 due to mistreatment. The entire justification of the invasion hinges on this one detail, but the facts tell a very different story.
2014 Ukraine: Multiple cities. Same time. Same weapons. Same objectives. Same uniforms. Russian commanders. Russian funding. Russian volunteers. FSB/GRU operatives. Russian media support.
Is this what a planned operation looks like to you?
@Montrey82631182 Awesome, thank you. I encourage everyone to bookmark this and other timeline posts by Montrey to refute some of the primary Russian talking points we hear every day.
@DavidAFrench@Kasparov63 He does not claim fraud, he says:
"I'm not saying it's rigged, I'm saying it stinks to high heaven... Let's remove the appearance of impropriety..."
🧵 China’s population collapse is now mathematically irreversible.
There simply aren’t enough women left of childbearing age.
Even if the fertility rate magically returned to replacement level (2.1 children per woman) tomorrow, the country would still lose more than 40% of its population by 2100.
It won't. The real number is 75%. There's nothing like it in history. 🧵
In today’s Vatnik Soup, we’ll introduce an American conspiracy theorist, podcaster & antisemite, Candace Owens (@RealCandaceO). She’s best known for spreading conspiracy theories, attacking Ukraine, promoting pro-Kremlin BS, and becoming a favorite of Russian state media.

Standing against the backdrop of the Lukyanivka neighborhood in Kyiv, destroyed by the Russians, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte condemned the occupiers' cowardly tactics.
@NickArn88006037@bonchieredstate I believe Putin thought he could have his cake and eat it too when it comes to joining the west but keeping his corrupt oligarch/puppet ruler system intact. The orange color revolution made him realize the two are not compatible.
@NickArn88006037@bonchieredstate I agree Putin did great things for Russians early on and that political capital is why he has been able to quietly and methodically remove freedoms more recently.
There was certainly a change at some point from the guy who said he didn't care if Ukraine joins NATO in 2002.
@AurelianSpeaks@bonchieredstate@JonahDispatch That sounds like pre WW2 thinking to me. We now know we cannot allow dictators to absorb free nations; that means acting early. Prevention vs cure.
@AurelianSpeaks@bonchieredstate@JonahDispatch As the largest and most prosperous economy in the history of the world, we value stability and trade above all else. After 2 world wars we know it's better to prevent expansionist states before we have to intervene militarily and at great cost.
@AurelianSpeaks@bonchieredstate@JonahDispatch The US tolerates certain levels of autocracy, but it does not align with expansionist regimes, save Russia in WW2... a terrible mistake. And I'm referring to eastern European allies like Poland, who are conservative & part of NATO. They know the danger of being a neighbor to Ru.
Truly morally sickening: that anyone should wish all of Ukraine to suffer the fate of Mariupol or Bucha. Russian occupation of Ukraine means random arrests, executions, concentration camps; the destruction of language and culture; mass kidnapping of children. All of these things have been documented in the occupied territories and continue to go on.
@AurelianSpeaks@bonchieredstate@JonahDispatch This is a valid question. Beyond caring about or supporting a group of people who collectively decide to move away from oligarchy and autocracy & towards western democracy, it's also beneficial to our allies with Ukraine as a buffer between them and Russian expansionist intent.
@AngusinCanada@HarrisonReardon@bonchieredstate It gets even worse for your nonsensical statement. Most western media companies ARE banned or blocked in Russia, including most social media apps.
Now, as a fun experiment, please tell me which Russian media websites are blocked in the United States?
@AngusinCanada@HarrisonReardon@bonchieredstate You clearly know nothing about Russia if you think media is "free". People get thrown in jail when they write anything that opposes Putin or his policies. You picked the most easily disproven element of Russian society. Please do some research about civil freedoms in Ru.
