Replacing a free market with a government-engineered market is not the same as using gov’t resources to protect the free market. If America’s hospitals were threatened (also owned by large corporations) we would expect law enforcement to protect healthcare access… this is the same just with energy.
From 2019-2023 I ran one of the biggest online business training platforms in the world (ENTRE Institute, >300K students). What EVERY student had in common was they showed up with some sort of "pain" (presented initially as financial pain but ALWAYS a proxy for deeper and more nuanced issues).
Here's what we learned about how to create a more fulfilling life and why pain is not only a bad thing, it's the starting point for the most profoundly wonderful things IF we learn how to use it... (and it's also what we've pivoted our whole company toward).

#ncashooter heard popping sounds then saw a guy run by with police chasing him, but can’t say for sure if the sounds were gunshots or something else. I can def say though there is no way they just evacuated 50,000 people like that and shut down the competition over a fistfight…
On top of the rampant waste on ideologically dubious grounds, USAID was acting as a propaganda arm subsidizing media favorable to the former administration (Politico)…
If true, which it appears to be, this should be as big a headline as there has ever been in the history of our country - a smoking gun showing otherwise unexplainable gov’t interference with the media.
At this point, anyone railing against what the current administration is doing to root out corruption is more committed to being right than to America. Whatever issue any detractor is focused on pales in comparison to the issue of the government controlling the media.
This was beyond a mere misappropriation of taxpayer money (that’s just another Tuesday). This was the foundation of democracy being subverted while people looked the other way. This was despotism.
I stay out of party politics bc everyone loses in any argument. But this isn’t partisan. This is about accountability for moral treason.
The longer I live the more clear it is to me that NOW is the time to determine my deathbed experience.
On that day I will experience a state somewhere on the spectrum between regret and fulfillment.
Where I am on that spectrum will be defined by the degree to which I worked to change the things I was dissatisfied with in my life vs continuing to choose them back when I had time.
And since the most time I will ever have for that work is right NOW, so it must begin if it hasn’t already.
And if I choose to wait to make changes I logically waive my right to want for any deathbed experience other than regret.
Trying to get rich quickly -> chase shiny objects -> succeed at dying poor slowly.
Trying to get rich slow -> stick with things too long (like jobs) -> succeed at dying middle class (which sadly still basically means poor in 2025).
So what to do?
Trying to solve real problems -> building hard & soft skills that set one apart -> succeed at getting rich.
It’s not about the approach it’s about the focus. As long as we’re the focus we’re the obstacle…
Whereas when others become the focus and we see ourselves simply as an instrument of service we treat ourselves differently, like tuning a machine vs indulging a child…
And that’s the version of us that will get paid the big bucks for serving others well (which is how getting rich actually happens).
The longer I run companies, the more I come to see “building culture” as creating an environment that heals the trauma of what the school system taught people work was supposed to look and feel like.
“When receiving praise becomes one’s goal, one is choosing a way of living that is in line with someone else’s system of values.”
- from The Courage to be Disliked by Ichiro Kashimi & Fumitake Koga
The great lie is that there is something out there that will make it easier. That’s how you get sold, that’s you get owned.
There is no “easier”, at least not that’s of value. There is only redirecting your endurance into more productive hard things…
The hard thing about freedom is it‘s a long game that’s called discipline when viewed on a shorter time horizon.
Meanwhile we have the long game of surrender to our impulses and emotions which masquerades as freedom in the short term.
The paradox is that in the right now freedom doesn’t “feel” as free as surrender does. This is why most people never get free.
Only we can change ourselves. When we invest in a “change agent” (course, coach, therapist, trainer, etc) we do best to think of it as increasing the size of the bet we’re placing on ourselves rather than buying down the odds… We are always the oddsmaker in our own outcomes.
Whatever was supposed to happen did. Now we get to figure out why. That’s how we achieve a meaningful life. Stuff happens to us and our job is to find the underlying meaning and then take the risk to live accordingly.
If we do we get fulfillment.
If we don’t we get regret.
