1/2 During the pandemic, for weeks together, physical stores were the only means of buying pads. And we all know the weird looks and secrecy we face while buying pads over the counter 😑
Also, pads weren't categorized as 'essentials' until mid April 2020!

1/2 As @RitikaChettri09 rightly said, unsanitary means are a breeding ground for bacteria that lead to a high risk of diseases like UTIs, Yeast infections, increased risks of reproductive disorders and cervical cancer.

There are reusable period products, yes. These are not only wallet-friendly, but are also sustainable. Yayy for the environment! We have menstrual cups and reusable cloth pads. We’ve also got reusable panty liners! #LetsTalkPeriodPoverty#NationalGirlChildDay
@humansofsafepl Lack of awareness, again. When GST Rules were implemented, sanitary pads were categorized as luxury items. We're not sure how periods - a combination of painful cramps, bleeding, period poops, rashes, etc - were seen as a luxurious experience 😅

Yes! As of 2018, it was estimated that 23% of Indian girls drop out of school when they reach the menstruating age. That’s almost 1 in 4 girls having to compromise on their education, due to period poverty. Period bullying also plays a role in this. #LetsTalkPeriodPoverty
