Six years ago today, LCpl Lorenzo Mascarenas took his last breath.

1st Lieutenant Benjamin Colgan. Born 1973. Killed in action 2 November 2003 in Iraq, the second Unit operator killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Colgan's path through the Army was the uncommon one. Came up enlisted, made it through Selection and OTC, and served as a 1st SFOD D Operator on the NCO side of the squadron. Then commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant out of the assault squadrons and rolled into conventional Army Field Artillery to build the officer side of the résumé. The Unit only takes officers at Captain and above. Colgan was working the calendar back toward CAG the long way around, building the rank and the troop time he'd need to walk back through the door wearing bars instead of stripes.
He was killed serving with the 1st Armored Division in Baghdad, attached to a Field Artillery Regiment, before he could complete the loop.
The Unit lost an NCO operator with the officer arc just starting to write. The kind of loss that the community remembers because of what was about to happen, not just what already had.
God will find you exactly where you are. Despite two arrests and many mistakes before I was 20, His grace and redemption found me in the summer of 2001 while at work. I heard the Lord tell me to "stop running," and I gave my life to Christ that very day. 🙏🏾

Please help me honor Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Lee Hamilton Deal, he passed May 17, 2006 serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom
“Our corpsmen are special to us Marines, and in every sense of the word, they are fellow Marines,” said Lt Col. James N. Bright, commanding officer of 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion.
Bright explained that Deal died “fearlessly clearing a suspected insurgent stronghold with his fellow Marines, willingly sacrificing his own safety to the benefit of his fellow Marines and to the successful accomplishment of the mission.”
Deal was described by 1st Lt. Craig Q. Reese, his platoon commander, as an outspoken, energetic, funny, caring young man who once performed first aid on a cow because that was part of what Deal saw as his responsibility.
“Every platoon needs that funny, outspoken guy,” said Cpl. Thomas N. Steshko. “We had ‘Doc’ Lee Deal. He always put everything into perspective and broke the ice when tensions were high.
Rest easy Hero 🇺🇸
