“The thing I love most about teaching is that you can connect with an individual or a group and see that individual or group exceed their limits.” - Coach K
Truly blessed to share in these moments with my daughters. Grateful for every minute. It’s never been about basketball; it’s always been about the quality time we’ve spent together and the life lessons learned along this beautiful journey.
Grant Hill played 19 seasons in the NBA
He won a national championship at Duke.
But the best advice he ever got came from his mom.
Here's what she taught him about living a life of character:

The lie we tell ourselves.
“Once we win one I’ll be happy.” - Sean McVay
Winning doesn’t fill the void. It just moves the finish line.
The real joy?
The grind. The growth. The people.
One day you’re gonna wake up and AAU basketball will be over. No more weekend tournaments, packed gyms, or team hotels. No more “one more game” next weekend.
One day you’ll be out of eligibility for high school basketball. Then college basketball too.
And eventually, the thing that feels like your whole world right now becomes a memory.
So stop playing scared. Shoot your shot. Sprint the floor. Dive on the loose ball. Compete with confidence. Enjoy your teammates. Because one day you’ll wish you could go back and play just one more game with them.
Fear and hesitation have ended way more careers than missed shots ever will.
Just something to think about.
As a leader, people are always watching you. They’re watching who you are and what you’re about.
What are they seeing?
More is caught than taught.
Establish your values, standards & expectations, then model them out everyday.
Become a winner by how you show up everyday. Being a winner is about your work ethic. It’s about growing. It’s how you show up in the process.
You can be a winner and the scoreboard not be in your favor. You can’t control the result or other people, but you can control you. You can control your preparation, your work ethic, how you show up, how you compete, what you put in, etc.
Thats why you can’t judge a winner solely by the reflection of the scoreboard. The scoreboard doesn’t tell the whole story. The scoreboard relies on external factors, while being a winner is defined by internal ones.
Winners understand, on the scoreboard, you either win or you learn. The scoreboard may reflect in your favor or it may show you areas to improve on. Regardless, it’s all about the process & the journey.
That’s what matters. That’s what winners focus on. Being a winner is measured by your growth in the process. Are you better than you were yesterday?
Show up, get 1% better everyday, and live in the process.
